[TRACKING] AMD FW13 fan speed jumps up high, drops quickly back to low / off

Had the same issue with fans spinning up and down all the time, and ended up using GitHub - TamtamHero/fw-fanctrl: A simple systemd service to better control Framework Laptop's fan(s) - I set it to always run the fan at low RPM even under 40C, this guarantees that the fan is never turning off and on.

I have a different model of Framework 13, the 12th-gen Intel version. I just updated the firmware to 3.17, and am now seeing that the fan speed randomly spikes up to the fastest speeds for about a half-second every now and then, which seems to me to be very similar to what people are complaining about in this thread. In my case, I see a correlation with spurious, incorrect readings from ACPI temperature sensor 1, which last for the same amount of time as the burst in fan speed.

I don’t mean to derail the thread, and I posted about my issue elsewhere. I’m mentioning it here just to let you all know that the issue may not be specific to your particular model of Framework 13.

I’m having a similar same issue with my Framework 13 11th gen intel (from 2022). It started a couple days ago. Temps are fine (between 30 and 50deg C), and the fan will start pulsing randomly at max speed even when idle, and with time the fan remains spinning for longer and longer.

Adding a data point - Framework Desktop has similar fan behaviour. I have a thread here:
