The new trackpad is randomly pausing and clicking. as I mouse over stuff.
i reinstalled the trackpad and all cables to try to make sure it and all cables are seated correctly.
verified that the trackpad physical click is not binding against either side of the case.
i’ve tried to search the forums and web/reddit and didn’t yet find anything that seems like the same symptoms.
here’s a video illustrating.
note, i’m not clicking anywhere just moving the mouse but the auto clicking is repositioning the cursor.
first i go slowly left to right, then slowly top to bottom.
I’m going to open a support case next. maybe something wrong with the new trackpad?
Definitely open a support case about the replacement track pad. That is not normal for sure.
One thing you could try is removing the trackpad from its mounting and still have it connected via the ribbon cable and see if it still is making the phantom clicks. If it goes away outside its mounting then something is pressing against it and when you move around with it, it is clicking.
That would help determine if the pad was defective or something is going on with your top cover.
I do not remember if you already started a ticket with support. If you have then they will help get it replaced. Sorry it was a defective part from the get go. Otherwise, be sure to start a ticket with support.
Once they respond send them the link to the video you made and maybe this thread? They should see it is not working as intended and will replace it. Good on you for trying a few extra steps and documenting it.
latest update from support is they want me to buy a whole new input cover.
i’ve sent them this video of the problem, without the input cover, in use at all
and hope they understand that despite the original trackpad failing after dropping something on the closed laptop. the input cover has nothing to do with the current problem.
