My FW12 (Batch 6, Lavender) arrived with a misaligned trackpad. How common is this? It’s not terrible, but it’s front-and-center so it was a bit of a disappointment.
I’ve trackpad misalignment mentioned twice so far in other threads:
Mine is also minimal misaligned… But not that it does bother me.
Mine was a bit misaligned too. It’s relatively easy to adjust. There are 5 or 6 screws holding the touchpad to the input cover. Try loosening the screws just enough that the trackpad isn’t “loose,” but can be shifted with slight force. Then you can shift it around to where you want it and then tighten the screws.
Not great to have to do it yourself, but at least it’s possible and not terribly difficult to fix.
I followed these steps to fix a stuck down trackpad, maybe it can help to realign it too:
For another data point, I just received 2 FW12’s for my daughters - one trackpad is misaligned enough that I’ll need to address it today.
Mechanical precision has always been a low bar with Framework laptops…
So, with that, what’s shown here does have some consistency.
Looking at the photos, not only are the trackpads misaligned, but also not on a parallel plane with the palm rest / input cover. It’s tilted slightly.
With a “normal laptop order”, say ordering a Thinkpad, I would never have looked that closely to even see this
my trackpad was also missaligned and the bottom right corner sits a bit deeper then the rest of the trackpad. I replaced it my self so now it sits evenly but the bottom right corner is still deeper. Forwarded it to the support, still waiting for the final conclusion of the case.
This is what I have as well.
Left click is OK, right click is a bit “sticky”…
Have you tried enabling two-finger right-click so you can avoid the extreme lower-right corner?
For my it’s not sticky. so the trackpad works fine, only in the bottom right corner it sits deeper. Don’t know why.
No, didn’t know that was a “thing”…
It feels like everyone has a misaligned track pad. Both the laptops I received had misaligned track pads. It doesn’t bother me as much cuz it can be adjusted.
Our quality team is working with the factory to improve both initial alignment and ensuring the fasteners are torqued enough for it to not shift after that, and our engineering team is also determining other ways to improve this.
I tried to realign mine loosing one of the screws. I found a washer and added a screw from an old macbook hoping it will work out until I find similar screw.
So you lost one of the screws? There are spare screws available in these 2 locations inside the bottom cover, one of them might be the right type?
This is amazing!!
Indeed! And they’ll even sell a whole set of spare screws for cases where just one of each type isn’t enough: https://frame.work/fr/fr/products/laptop12-fastener-kit
(not available yet, so hold on on losing more screws
)
