Unable to boot with power plugged in

  • OS: Linux Arch
  • Laptop 13 with AMD 7040 Series

Hi all, I’ve been having a weird issue on my laptop: it won’t boot if I have it plugged in.

It’s something I can get around with but a bit annoying. I wonder if it’s related to the latest BIOS update done as this wasn’t the case before.

More context is probably needed here. We are all end users here on the forums. Contact support and start a ticket with them. They have the best tools and a database of solutions that help address issues with their devices.

Off the cuff, if a firmware update was done and the settings not defaulted afterwards (many people skip this) something might have gotten into the EC value wise that is preventing the device from powering on when connected to power.

First step to try would be defaulting the values in the BIOS. If that does nothing, a main board reset may be necessary or a battery disconnect to help reset whatever component is not playing nice with the others.

By “plugged in”, do you mean a dock? If so, did you upgrade to BIOS 3.18? There’s a known issue with it that matches your symptom. The thread there has links to downgrade instructions to 3.17 too.

oh wow, was not aware. I’ll look into that and report back
