Unable to download firmware updates in LVFS even if they exist

I’ve been trying to solve this and just couldn’t wrap my head around it. I know there’s a couple of posts related to LVFS on the forums, but the situation seems to be different as compared to mine. Any help is appreciated.

I’m running Fedora 44 on my Framework 13 w/ AMD AI 300, and can’t seem to trigger an actual download of the available updates as reported by LVFS:

sudo fwupdmgr refresh --force
Updating lvfs
Downloading… ▕⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿▏
Successfully downloaded new metadata:
• XX devices are updatable
• X devices are supported in the enabled remotes (an update has been published)
sudo fwupdmgr update
Devices with the latest available firmware version:
• UEFI dbx
• Fingerprint Sensor
• System Firmware
• Thunderbolt Dock G4
• UEFI CA
• Windows UEFI CA
Devices with no available firmware updates:
• KEK CA
• Laptop DB
• Laptop KEK
• Laptop Webcam Module (2nd Gen)
• SBAT
• Touchpad
• USB3.0 Hub

After sudo fwupdmgr update, nothing happens. As you could see from the outputs above, there is clearly a list of updates that’s available but they never get triggered. Am I missing something?

Which updates do you think should be applied? I don’t see anything to apply from your output.

What does sudo fwupdmgr get-updates list?

I think Kenny’s reading is right: that output says fwupd refreshed LVFS metadata and found devices/remotes it knows about, not that there is a newer version for this machine. fwupdmgr get-updates is the useful check; if it also says nothing, there is nothing queued to download. If you want to sanity-check, run fwupdmgr get-devices and compare the current System Firmware version/branch with Framework’s release notes for the AMD AI 300 board.

Thanks both.

I see what you are saying.

To my dumb brain, I thought the phrase “Device with the latest available firmware version” meant “These devices have the latest firmware version available to download”. I feel stupid.

fwupdmgr get-updates also states no updates are available.

Thanks again for responding.
