Hello out there!
The name is Tim, i’m from Dortmund, Germany and not quite 50 years old. After owning a Fairphone 2 and 4 for some years now i was thrilled to learn about a modular notebook as well. My 13 inch FW arrived 3 days ago in DIY fashion. Assembling it required re-routing some cables around the display hinges, but this worked fine.
I stick with Debian GNU/Linux for a few decades now and really enjoy the amount of control that i have over my computer.
Hey there,
I’m Benjamin and since end of December 2024 proud owner of a Framework 13 AMD laptop. I live in Germany near Duesseldorf where you can find me riding my KTM motorbike and developing software/firmware (mostly under Linux) for a living. At the moment I’m really into Raspberry Pi Pico development and the option to carry a Pico extension card in my Framework 13 is just too good to miss out
Looking forward to some interesting discussions
Ben
Welcome to the community Tim!
Welcome to the community Ben, it’s great to have you here!
Hi All! My spouse discovered the Framework & showed it to me. I was so excited as ever since I got my first computer in 1983 I have wanted to have a laptop that I could build and upgrade myself! About a year and a half ago that became a reality when my Framework 13 shipped! I have loved sharing my Framework at laser conventions, my work(!), and to anyone who will lend me an ear. My spouse received their 16" and loves it as much as i love my 13".
By trade, I am a Cybersecurity Engineer, married to my best friend, and we love our techy toys which include (2) 3D printers, (2) CO2 lasers, (2) Teslas, (2) Framework laptops, and our xTool F1 Ultra 20W fiber & diode laser that just arrived today!..and yes that means we have to share the xTool, at least for now.
We travel a lot in our EVs and I generally am sitting in the passenger seat on my Framework the whole time we are on the road. This is a very light laptop and stays connected to my hotspot 100% of the time whereas my HP laptop didn’t have that level of success. I am hoping a touch screen will be made available at some point, as well as the potential for cellular so I wouldn’t have to hotspot from my old cell phone. …and thanks @Fraoch for the new thread.
Hello!
I’m a tech worker who a) wanted to escape the walled gardens and megacorps as much as possible and b) wanted a machine which could grow and last over time. I’ve just assembled my “entry level” framework 13 and signed up here. Currently kicking the tires in Linux mint, which is working quite well!
Thanks for the community and the excellent repairable hardware!
that sounds awesome actually, I’m super jealous! welcome to the community!
thanks Dana, welcome to the community!
Thank you for the welcome! Looking forward to learning a lot here.
Hello all. Wow quite a thread. I have to admit I did not read all of them to get here but I see common draws. I met a Framework rep in 2020 at SCaLE just before lockdown. Always been on the back of mind. I’m really interested in Risc-V and with Rust, Fish, and Redox, I thought this might be a good place to settle in. With October to hit Windows and I look to find a new machine, it’s time to back something I believe in. Don’t want to bore anyone with my opinions and life story so maybe they’ll come along with more conversations.
Anyway, nice to meet y’all, the enthusiasm is inspiring.
Hello! I am so happy to be a member of this community now. Everybody seems super nice and helpful and that’s really important to me. I love open source and operating systems. I hope to be able to run Genode on this laptop soon.
I heard about the Framework laptop series when I was involved in the Universal Blue community, and the crew was super pumped about getting their Frameworks, and they LOVED them. As a result, a lot of Fedora Silverblue and Universal Blue users ended up investing in this hardware, and we seem to be very happy with this decision.
I’ll be hanging around and visiting the various forums and see if I can join the conversation
welcome to the community!!
welcome to the community!!
Hello! I’ve been following Framework since the launch of the Laptop 13, and I’ve been reading these forums as a non-member ever since. I’ve been amazed at the community you all have built here! I’m happy to say that I ordered my Laptop 13 last night, replacing my ThinkPad T470 that’s been valiantly holding on all these years despite having two cores and a serious screen issue. I’m a software developer and a roughly 20-year Debian user, though it’s caused me so few problems that I’m not the kind of expert that “20-year Debian user” would seem to imply. When my Framework arrives, both my desktop and my laptop will run AMD CPUs for the first time in my life.
congrats and welcome to the community!
Gemini AI recommended me Framework, I am interested in a laptop which is easier to use, filled with the apps I use and is possible to upgrade.
I am still lacking a more neurodiverse friendly laptop. Should be so lovely to explore such possibilities.
But my friend is still hesitating to make a purchase because of the price and the uncertainty of if it is still will be alive, when an upgrade or similar is needed?
And the community seems to be rather inactive (or complicated for a beginner)? I almost couldn’t find this tread, which could be an easy way to feel welcome…
A bit about me:
I am travelling traveler traveling, supporting people with their creative projects, evolving their ideas (or at least giving them plenty of more options), learning more about cultures, languages and what people believe in. My interests are around creativity, nature and to continue to be curious to learn, whatever I find interesting.

Welcome to the community Westberg! and thanks for your feedback, we should make this thread more visible.
Community is not inactive but people are quiet these days since we currently do not have any products on pre-order, there isn’t much to discuss right now. It will be lively again when we announce new products
When?
exactly
Hi,
While loving the idea of a modular laptop (yes, it Is the only way to go with electronics) and while already owning a Fairphone 4, the modular phone from Holland, made only with parts which are sourced in a fair non-exploitative way, the Framework 13/16 laptop is a bit above my pay-Tardi-grade. So, just lurking and learning, atm!
