Wifi 7 On FW16

Is there any Wifi 7 add on cards that work with the FW16? Framework sells the AMD RZ717 Wi-Fi 7 card but only mentions the newer “Ryzen AI” generation FW13 and Desktops (with no mention of the new FW16) in the product description.

EDIT: Added a ton of tags since there are no “general” tags and the expansion bay type is now a required field.

If you mean the new FW16, then yes, it does work, it says on the “updated for 2025” page. I reckon that the Wi-Fi 7 card is backwards compatible, but maybe there is something wrong/incompatible with the antennae.

Edit: They likely didn’t change the Wifi cards description.

I don’t recall seeing the Wi-Fi 7 card on the store page when I looked yesterday. It looked like Wi-Fi 6 was still the only one on there. All the other upgrades to the FW16 were on there.

Since you are also tagging old stuff, I assume you are asking about the original hardware for the 16 as well? The Qualcomm QCNCM865 wifi 7 card works great on it. I have been using it for a few months already. At this point, I’ll trust anything else over another Mediatek card. They have always been awful for me (on multiple computers).

Yes, wifi 7 for the 300 series mainboards. Check updated for 2025 page. It is listed in the products just hasn’t been “updated” on the website.

Faster networking

Now with Wi-Fi 7 through AMD’s RZ717 wireless module, supporting 6GHz networks with 160MHz channel width. Works out of the box on Linux.”

If you look at the card description on the market it says compatible with 300 series chipset.

I’m currently using this in my 16 and it works fine.

I second using the Qualcomm card. It’s a fantastic piece of hardware and after updating the Linux firmware and kernel to the August 2025 builds, it works even better
