If I upgrade to the 12th gen, should I get the i5 or i7 1260? I use the machine for basic web surfing, some slicing on 3D print files, SSH for remoting into a server, light gaming. I don’t think I need the i7, but what do you think?

I find that my i7-1165G7 is more than enough for all of these tasks, and even the 12th gen i5 will be a good bit better than it. Unless you really need all the multicore performance one of the i7s offers you’re probably good with the i5.

The difference between i5-1240P and i7-1260P is that the i7 has 96 EU cores for the iGPU instead of 80.

What CPU do you have now? If you have 11th gen of i7, don’t upgrade at all. IMHO
I don’t think that you even need to upgrade. If you do I would go for the i5 (I did).
