so i bought a Ryzen™ AI 9 HX 370 upgraded my framework 13, followed the guide to a tea and when i powered it on the battery would no longer accept a charge. i tried a dozen different outlets, blocks, chargers and usb c adapters even trying plugging the cables directly into the motherboard. Not even the light would come on, eventually the battery died, so i took matters into my own hands and bought a new
Framework Laptop 13 Battery - 61Wh thinking the battery was the issue and a Framework Laptop 13 Fingerprint Reader Kit (1st Gen). But after installing the new battery the same issue still persisted no matter what i tried the battery would not accept a charge from the mainboard. so after fooling around in bazzite i thought it was a linux issue so i switched back to windows 11 but the battery still would still not charge. i tried unpluging the battery from the mainboard for so long but that fixed absolutly nothing. im 3 weeks without charging my laptop wondering what can be done?
I’d file a ticket with support. Is the original laptop out of warranty, but you’ve bought new parts? When you say the battery “died”, do you mean it ran out of charge because you couldn’t charge it? I assume your two batteries are not defective.
Have you tried reverting to your old motherboard, so you can charge your batteries?
ran outta charge so the battery was dead thought that was the issue but also couldn’t charge the 61 wh
i also have the latest bios
Answer this too if you can, please.
try removing the battery, then holding power button to drain residual charge. Follow up by plugging in a charger and see if any lights flash. If they do then your motherboard is not completely borked. Im not sure about the charging issue. I had a similar issue with my FW 16 after updating to the latest BIOS Framework 16 Fans no longer work + slight burning smell from MB
That’s the problem of the charge controller instead of the battery. If resetting the BIOS doesn’t work, repair components of the mainboard
If replacing the battery did not help, the problem is then the mainboard and a faulty component in the charging circuit.
One of the FETs is most likely failed.
It is quite easy to diagnose.
Battery tells EC the desired current and volts.
EC tells the charger chip those desired values.
Measured charge current still 0mA.
Conclusion: FET faulty.
