Bios Difficulties, Framework 13

I choose no os because I wanted linux Fedora installed but I tried installing through two methods(I dont have another computer to boot so I tried through my phone); The first is through the usb c port directly but it flashed green 6-7 times, red twice and blue twice. The second method was a usb hub caused it to flash green and blue about twice. I’ve inserted a bootable usb stick specifically meant for linux(which is a usb-a into the usb hub) it didnt do anything. I dont have a usb a port but I might get one if it solves my problem.

How are you trying this through your phone?
Writing a bootable “live” USB flash drive using an android phone, such as with EtchDroid?
Or emulating a flash drive with an rooted android phone, such as with DriveDroid?

So, are you seeing the BIOS at all, either when you try to boot with something connected or try to boot with nothing connected? You should be getting a bios screen at least even if there is no OS present.

It doesnt show a bios or any line of code, I downloaded etchdriod and wrote image which it said it overwrote the stuff in it. I overwrote the code twice using fedora workstation(off the website) first and then KDE fedora. Ive charged the laptop and redid the usb hub method with two usb connected(should I disconnect one of them?)

hmm, I do believe it should, even with no OS present at all.

I think the FWL16 AMD led boot codes haven’t yet been documented anywhere.(?) Someone please correct me if I’m mistaken. Only FWL13 11th gen and 12th gen. knowledgebase.frame.work/en_us/my-framework-laptop-intel-12th-gen-intel-core-is-not-powering-on-BJWtouV3q. But the first half at least might be the same for all Frameworks. I’d suggest counting your led blinks and comparing them to the chart. Record the blinks if you aren’t certain at all so you can play back slower, or post.

Did you buy your ram from Framework? You could have a bad ram module. You can try booting with only one module, then try again with only the other module. A bad ram slot is also a possibility. So you could try again using the other slot.

Yeah, whenever troubleshooting issues it’s best to reduce your variables. Only having what you need connected, and nothing more. Even removing any other expansion cards.

Its a framework 13 amd(7640u) and I bought the ram directly from framework to guarantee no problems come from third party ram. Also I used both ram slots, Im willing to take off the cover and try and put it in properly if necessary. I wish I could show a video but it says thats not allowed which makes sense.

I’d suggest contacting Framework support. https://framework.kustomer.help/contact/support-request-ryon9uAuq

Using both slots is, of course, the normal thing to do.

What I described about trying to boot with only one ram module is just a procedure for testing whether a ram module being bad is the problem. It happens occasionally, even with brand-name quality ram. One slot on the motherboard being bad can also happen, hopefully rare, but still.

Looks like that limitation is because you have a very new user account. It’s just normal forum spam protection. I believe you just need to view 15 more posts, then the new user limitations should be lifted. So just click any thread that has more than 15 posts and scroll through them. Then you should be able to add attachments. But I think you may need help from Framework support.

Thank for the help, Framework is helping me fix this ordeal! I might need you on standby if thats alrgiht with you. No, im joking, thank you! Im getting some progress

Hey, I wanna say they sent over a new motherboard but the bios still doesnt work and even through a usb hub through hdmi, it doesn’t work. It should work, ive tried the hdmi cable on tvs and projectors and the cable worked with the previous motherboard( although it only display one word - working) plus the charger worked though the usb hub. I even used the usb hub for a laptop cooler.

So, when you attempt to boot, nothing happens, and the screen just stays black, no bios, not messages, no logos?

Hmm. I really thought / think something should be shown on any computer. As long as you have ok ram, ok power, ok mainboard. But I do not have a Framework to say 100% that it does so as well. Perhaps someone else will chime in to confirm.

While a two mainboards in a row being bad is a possibility, one would hope that wouldn’t happen often, so the likelyhood should not be high. I would look at everything else, before falling back to suspecting two mainboards in a row being bad.

So standard troubleshooting is to start running through things, checking them, or ideally just removing them as variables / potential sources of an issue.

To me, the way to start is just remove all variables possible. A bad component can prevent booting. So I’d suggest disconnecting everything. No side expansion modules, Wifi card unplugged, SSD removed, internal display cable unplugged, no external monitor either, just see if the laptop’s LED flashes any different first, before trying an external monitor. And only put in one stick of RAM. If it doesn’t boot, swap to the other stick of RAM (still just one, but the other one). Nothing but one stick of RAM is actually needed for a PC to boot, to bios at least.

What USB charger and cable do you have? Check that the charger appears to work if connected to a different device. If you have a different USB PD laptop charger on hand, try that with your Framework.

Its not charging for some reason, I’ll wait to see if it will work again. Here’s the vidoe: https://youtube.com/shorts/XS4RtdmH2xY?feature=share you’ve been helpful also I’ve started a different post where someone else has been helping me alongside framework support of course, thank yall.
