I have a old ssd from years ago I just use as a USB I know it’s not recommended but will this work for a week just to get through class even if it’s really slow?

Sata would not work. What storage (SSD) parts are compatible with the Framework Laptop? (unless it’s sata via a USB adapter)
But that drive pictured is not sata. It’s NVMe PCIe Gen3x4

It should work. If I recall, the Framework laptop slot is NVMe PCIe Gen4 x4, backward compatible with Gen3
