Hi all, wondering if I can get an opinion, all was good last night when using, went to pack it up to take to work this morning, had a windows update did a update and shut down ( win11) and it was off so put in bag. At work turned on and I’m missing a 1/3 of display no light what so ever and the display that is there is ghostie, external is fine ish ( I use “everything” as a file search / cache and it’s not displaying pdfs thumbs like it was not sure if that’s related) anyway
The question is do I try a DP cable only or is it just safer to get a replacement screen I’m in AUS so time frame for shipping is going to be a pain. What’s people opinion on chance it’s just a cable
Unfortunately you are going to need a full display replacement. There are many incidents of a large chunk of displays breaking and it is usually cause by debris or pressure of that portion of the display. If it were a cable issue, it is way more likely your entire display would be damaged.
As you seem to be out of the warranty period (12th gen was around 2 years ago), I’m afraid you will have to purchase a new display. Nice opportunity to try the 2.8k display though.
An interesting thing on the Framework warranty page that applies to Australia is this
For Customers in Australia: Our goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. You are entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure and compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage. You are also entitled to have the goods repaired or replaced if the goods fail to be of acceptable quality and the failure does not amount to a major failure.
I do not know if this applies after the warranty.
Here is the warranty information from Framework:
My final verdict would be you are better off with purchasing a DisplayPort cable for now until the new display arrives. Make sure to inspect for any damage though before installing the display to make sure it doesn’t happen again.
Cheers Elliot, i was kinda thinking that way, it is odd though i check the screen before closing and it goes in to a very well padded sleeve in a good bag ( shout out to LTT Backpack ), anyhow i guess i bought a framework because of the self repair-ability so i guess im getting a screen. thanks for the advice.
