Do you see picture improvements with webcam gen2 in low light?

Hey! Got my gen2 webcam today, installed it, real excited at the prospect of pixel binning and stuff. Did a picture test and…

I don’t really see the difference. Bottom picture is gen2, btw…

As I don’t really want to be underwhelmed like this, wanted to ask whether I am the only one with this experience? Am I maybe doing something wrong (pictures taken with Windows 11 Camera app)?

The module is definitely second-gen as it exhibits the new behavior where it shows static image when the webcam disable switch is activated.

I’m not sure if you can consider that environment “low light”, did you have the chance to test it in a darker place?

The intersection of the walls and the ceiling is apparent with the new camera, and does not appear to be with the old one, for one. The poster on the wall is not visible in the first shot so can’t compare that. Finally, the items in the room through the doorway generally seem to be similar in each shot.

Looks a bit underwhelming to me in terms of detail as well.

There is a definite decrease in chromatic noise but the sharpness looks roughly equal?

Curious if anyone else has more comparison samples!

The doorway is definitely brighter - just above your right shoulder. It’s brighter in the center overall.

Your skin looks brighter, less red and clearer. Your T-shirt looks more orange with the old and more red with the new.

And yes, the corner of the walls and ceiling is now clearly visible.

Not too dramatic, but definitely an improvement I’d say?

To me the grainy look at that lighting was already feeling “low light”, i.e. definitely the lower boundary for acceptable meetings, so that’s how I thought to compare it. But let’s dial the lighting down as suggested!

Now the bayer noise is much more noticeable. The colors are much more true to life on the gen2.

Have more photos in different lighting + from Logi Brio, but the forum software doesn’t want to accept any more uploads from me

I quite like how it looks with the gen2.
This is not a case of going from 720P to 4k, but, it looks better.

Here’s another comparison from

Nice, gen2 really looks miles better, plus the FOV increase is apparent. Thank you!

I’ve also posted all my comparison shots to an album on imgur, it has Logi Brio pictures + pictures in a scenario where the light illuminates anything but you. For the latter one I even prefer FW gen2 camera over Brio.

Somehow the new camera creates smiles. Definitely send that to the marketing team!
