Does anyone working on the "case" to reuse previous F16 motherboard?

I’m going to upgrade to a new “AI” CPU and an RTX 5070 GPU. It would be nice to reuse my current AMD F16 hardware as a server/HTPC.

Are there any 3D-printed projects I can use?
P.S. I know the Framework team is working on an eGPU, but I also need a case for the main board.

Follow. There was some guy working on it, but it’s been silent.

Also, I wanted to know if anybody is working on Interposer → PCI-E adapters to reuse the 7700S in standard cases…

I think the mainboard case is lower priority than the eGPU/GPU enclosure because the mainboard performance uplift is smaller. Very few users are going to upgrade from a 7840HS/7940HS to the new AI 9 HX 370. IMO, It’s an incremental upgrade mainly for new sales.

Interested in that too.
Eventually also just an adapter for putting it into another case. Imagine adding a decent PCI controller and a bunch of disks to make a nice and fast server

I’m also interested on it.

Would love to reuse my CPU and GPU for a home server eventually. Not looking to upgrade for this generation just yet but in the future when I do, reusing the mainboard and GPU would be amazing.

As there is no case project at the moment, I’ll do it myself. (It would be an ugly box, but it is better than nothing)

For that, I have a few questions:

  • Which threaded inserts and screw do I need to use to mount the MB (including the interposer)? I’m planning to have heat inserts for the MB mount points.
  • Where can I find the dimensions for the MB mounting points?
  • Is “Slabwork 16” a good name for the project?

There are the stl files for the official f16 case at the following link: GitHub - FrameworkComputer/Framework-Laptop-16: Documentation around the Mainboard and other key parts of Framework Laptop 16
For now is very basic but is 3d printable on many 3d printing services, although quite expensive as it requires long printing time and large quantities of resin/filament/powder
(200+ $ including fast shipment.)
