External Monitors not working after suspend

Hey there,

i am using my new Framework Laptop in combination with my old ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 Gen 2 Dock - At first everything seems fine. Two Full-HD Monitors, USB and Ethernet are working as expected.

As soon as the Laptop enters sleep state or suspends the monitors do not “wake up” again. If I remove my Laptop from the dock and connect again everything works again.
USB and Ethernet are working the whole time, even after suspend.

I did update the dock and my framework to the latest firmware.

OS: Ubuntu 24.04.01 LTS
Kernel: 6.8.0-51-generic
BIOS: JFP30.03.05
System: Framework 13 AMD Ryzen 7040 Series

Is this a known problem? Is there already a fix?

I suspect this is using Wayland but to confirm can you check in Settings → About under Windowing System? It may have a pop-up.

If it is X11 the displays may be going into power saving mode so this may help:

xset -dpms

Can you share the make and model of these displays?

Yes you are right, I am indeed using Wayland.

I assume you are talking about the external monitors?
Lenovo L27i-28 and Acer HA240Y.
It seems like the Laptop wants to output a display signal but the monitors do not get it through the docking station.
The build in display is working all the time. I do not see my login screen after suspend (because its on one of the external monitors) but if i login my homescreen is shown on the build in display.

Hey there,
did somewhat found a solution to this problem.
If I lock my laptop before it goes to suspend the problem is gone.
Can not explain what is different but for me it is working right now.
