Fingerprint reader not working/prompting anymore

Fedora 40 on Framework 16

fingerprint reader was working fine. Now it does not prompt anymore at login/sudo. Also disappeared from gnome Users settings.

I could see this error from the service:

▶ journalctl -b 0|grep fingerprint
Jul 18 18:32:52 gearo gdm-fingerprint][2666]: pam_unix(gdm-fingerprint:session): session opened for user fryorcraken(uid=1000) by fryorcraken(uid=0)
Jul 24 14:15:55 gearo gdm-fingerprint][79169]: pam_fprintd(gdm-fingerprint:auth): ReleaseDevice failed: Release failed with error: The device is still busy with another operation, please try again later.

I restarted the laptop, did not help.

I did a “reset to default and enable TPM” to see if it could help. No help either.

Apart from standard upgrades, the only think that may have impacted is that I loaded a custom signed module for the led matrix. I don’t know if it stopped working since then or because of something else.

Now, journalctl does not seem to print any errors about it anymore.

I was really enjoying it so your help is very much appreciated!

It does not even seem to show when running lsusb:

I followed instructions in Fingerprint reader doesn't show up in settings - #2 by Jared_C_Strong

  1. Shutdown PC
  2. Wait a bit
  3. Start again

fingerprint read is back and configured as before.

Not sure if/how to report that to framework.
