Framework 13 - Loses ability to adjust screen brightness

13th gen Framework 13 running windows. Every few days for the past month or two, my Framework loses the ability to adjust the brightness using the keyboard. I can adjust it manually in the control panel. Or if I restart, it will work properly again. Any ideas on how to fix this?

I saw this as well. But it was with my earlier laptop (also a 13) and it seemed to coincide with other function keys not working as well. But it also seemed that I could get function keys to work, but only while holding down the fn key. I know this is not an answer, but it was confusing to me too. It would be nice to have a definitive answer to why this happens.

The only function keys that quit on mine are the backlight brightness. Volume, play/pause, and the keyboard brightness continue working. It’s certainly confusing.

The fix was the latest firmware for the Core Ultra. I had not updated it when the firmware came out!

Update…the firmware was NOT the fix. I spent the past 9 days reinstalling windows twice, installing/disabling apps and randomly having the brightness issue reoccur. I JUST figured it out. I use an SD to microSD card reader in a USB hub on my monitor. If that is plugged in when the computer boots, the brightness control fails (and my computer also takes 30 seconds to open, specifically, only PDF files). Why? I have no idea.

But in trying to diagnose the PDF issue, I found that SD card reader caused the PDF opening delay, and also I can disable the brightness hotkey by plugging in the SD card reader, and I can make it work again by unplugging it. Ridiculous. I cannot fault Framework at all for this since clearly something is triggered by PDF files opening in combination with the SD card reader (with or without a card in it). Also, I tried 3 different PDF apps and they all had a 30 second delay.
