I just installed my new Framework mainboard with an AMD Ryzen AI 350. Unfortunatly, the new mainboard does not react to me pressing the power button.
The RAM I use is this one: Crucial 64GB DDR5-5600 SODIMM | CT64G56C46S5 | crucial.com I use a single stick of it and tried it in either slot. I also tried a different Micron stick from a Thinkpad T16 I have, same result. But let me first tell you what happens.
When I have the battery and/or power supply connected the laptop blinks red with the input cover off and white with the input cover on. Pressing the power button does nothing, it doesn’t light up the power button LED or changes the color of the side LED.
Before that I had an Intel 1360P mainboard which worked without any issues.
Connecting only the power supply causes the side LED to alternate between red and blue.
Can someone help or did I just got a DOA mainboard?
If I remember when looking at some of the EC code, the power button light does not get invoked until a steady state is reached by the mainboard after the POST.
Upon pressing the power button the device likely is going through the test routines though since this is a new board and AMD boards have a memory training process that can be a little lengthy, which then often resets the state after training and then the test routines are restarted again after which then it finally reaches a steady state.
So while the press of the power button is registered there is little to no feedback because this is a startup routine that is only performed at a change in memory state.
Not sure what would be better to have a flashing power button while this is in process or just simply stay off like it currently does. One would let you know something is working but the downside is people would regularly confuse it for something going wrong or try to count flashes and then come to some other conclusoon which would also be arbitrary. Glad you got it working. Have you found a repurpose for the previous mainbaord. The AMD board should be noticably faster and a little better on battery life.
