Framework 16 Keyboard Issue with weird seating behavior

I use my framework as my daily machine. Over the past few months, the machine would once every few weeks boot saying the keyboard was not seated. Every time, I would remove and reattach the touchpad and keyboard (right position) + numpad (left most position) and it would be working fine.

This morning, I tried to boot my machine and noticed the enter key on the keyboard would not open the the password field. I shut it down and reseated but no change (boot sequence thinks all the input modules are in the correct place. I used the enter key on the numpad which was functioning and tried to type in the password and noticed that the only characters I could enter were the keys on the alphanumeric left of 3, e, d, c.

I then tried the following combos, all of which resulted in no keys working

  • Keyboard on the left most position with no numpad
  • Keyboard on the 2nd left most position
  • Keyboard on the right most position with numpad of left

The keyboard also does not seem to do anything in BIOS (I used an external keyboard via usb module to press F2)

  • Windows 11
  • Framework 16 w/ Expansion Bay Module: Graphics Module (AMD Radeon™ RX 7700S) (1st Gen)
  • US/Korean Keyboard
  • Purchased 2025-April

Hey @John_Lee1 Give support a shout. We can help run some keyboard tests and give you some warranty options if replacement is needed.

Spoke to support. Ordered a keyboard ahead of RMA on Tues. Arrived Fri. Swapped and it looks like it’s functioning. Ran two games of Beyond All Reason and it seems fine despite the laptop running a bit warm.
