Hello!
I was recently working on my laptop (the hardware, at least), to get some hair out of a GPU fan. While putting it back together, I overtightened both one of the interposer screws, and one of the other locking screws.
These are both captive screws, and I am wondering if there’s any way to get them out. Trying to remove them with the driver just results in endless spinning and clicking sounds. They’ve both wallowed out a bit, although the screwdriver still fits.
I’ve got some replacement screws I purchased arriving sometime next week, and while the GPU itself does still work (for now, although with some graphical glitches appearing now and again), I am hoping there’s some ways to get these screws out, as I’ll need to replace the interposer.
I’ve tried the rubber band method, and simple adhesives. Neither work, so I’m mulling using J-B Weld. I’m just going to consider this an expensive lesson, and any advice is appreciated. I’m OK breaking the interposer, but I’d like to save my mainboard and GPU.
Thank you,
Deiniol
TL;DR:
I overtightened two captive screws, and need to remove them entirely. Requesting advice before acting. I am OK with losing the interposer and replacing some screws.
