I have a chromebook laptop. When I first got it I upgraded storage and ram, has worked great. A few days ago I was typing on it and it suddenly went dead, just stopped in the middle of use. Since then I can’t get it to charge or boot. When I plug in a usb-c charger (tried several) the normal light that comes on when charging isn’t on - there’s no response.
I tried:
removed ram and storage and adding them back
looked at cables inside
look at battery plug-in connector. Unplugged and plugged it back
holding down power button for 30 seconds (tried both plugged in and unplugged).
Nothing got any response, never got it to wake up. Never got the power light on when plugged in - i tried all 4 ports, took out the usb-c adapters and still nothing.
I know this is a silly question, but it helped me out when my First Generation Intel Framework 13 did the same thing…
Have you tried plugging in a simple 5 volt phone charger? If the BIOS battery has gone flat I’ve seen the framework fail to correctly enable USB-PD charging until “jumped” with a simple 5v charger that allows it to power up the USB-PD controller and take a full power charger.
If it starts to respond after you try that you probably just have to replace the ML1220 lithium coin cell battery on the main board to restore full functionality.
Any update on this? The same just happened to mine.
I’m travelling without a screwdriver or an A to C cable, so I haven’t been able to try any fixes myself, but I’m wondering if I should try to get those where I am now, or if there’s a part I should order so I’ll have it when I get home in a few weeks.
Was able to find a screwdriver and a simple 5V charger. Tried both 5V and multiple high power chargers in ports with and without expansion cards and with and without the battery connected. Nothing gets the lights on the side to turn on or any other response
I haven’t tried anything like that. I will try it today and report back. I’ve tried various higher power regular-laptop usb-c chargers with nothing happening. Do you know where the small battery is located on this laptop? I took a quick look before and didn’t find it. One could just go buy a replacement that’s already charged for a few bucks.
