Small thing I just noticed, the emails with thread reply notifications have a 2021 copyright year in them. Not a big deal, just fyi
Our volunteer moderators are still members of this community; they simply help maintain a healthy environment for discussions. They have their own opinions on the topics discussed here and are free to share their ideas, just like anyone else. I donât see any issue with that.
Same, from an email in 2024.
Also, the copyright year for the forum is set to 2023.
Hopefully someone can embed some JavaScript to always point to the current year.
Thatâs not how copyright years work â theyâre never required in the US, but where they exist anyway, they supposed to be the earliest year the work was created, or a range (e.g. 2021-2024), not the current year. Auto-updating it is improper.
The date is currently neither the most recent updated year or the year the forums was created, but I believe Frameworkâs custom theme was created in 2023.
@catastrophic I found one incorrect tag âframework-laptop-13-amdâ when selecting âFramework Laptop 12â category. The tag name should be Intel 13th Gen.
this should be fixed, thanks for the flag
@catastrophic There is the topic template on the Framework Laptop 13 - Linux and Framework Laptop 16 - Linux categories. However there is no topic template on Framework Laptop 12 - Linux and Framework Desktop - Linux categories. I want to see the topic template for Framework Laptop 12 and Framework Desktop - Linux categories.
As a reference, below is the topic template on the Framework Laptop 13 - Linux category.
Which Linux distro are you using?
Which release version?
(if rolling release without a release version, skip this question)
(If rolling release, last date updated?)
Which kernel are you using?
Which BIOS version are you using?
Which Framework Laptop 13 model are you using? (AMD Ryzen⢠AI 300 Series, AMD Ryzen⢠7040 Series, IntelÂŽ Core⢠Ultra Series 1, 13th Gen IntelÂŽ Core⢠, 12th Gen IntelÂŽ Coreâ˘, 11th Gen IntelÂŽ Coreâ˘)
@catastrophic There are âLinux distribution name on the Framework Laptop 12â threads that @Matt_Hartley created, pinned, and closed on the Framework Laptop 12 - Linux category. These threads are linked by the page https://frame.work/linux. Why donât you reopen the threads now? Because users are using the Framework Laptop 12 now.
In the current situation, users have to create a user version of such threads, such as [User] NixOS on the Framework Laptop 12. I think such threads can be merged into the official âLinux distribution name on the Framework Laptop 12â threads.
Aww⌠Just when the going got goodâŚ
I have seen that such official âLinux distribution name on the Framework Laptop 13/16â threads have been used to discuss something there. Maybe Framework people are forgetting to reopen these threads for the Framework Laptop 12.
They had a community manager change recently, this might have been lost during handover. Happens
I donât blame them; theyâve got a lot to deal with.
Ack, yes, this is an oversight. Added to my Fridayâs work-list. Thanks
Edited: Done
Is there any chance of adding SVG into the supported files that can be added to the community.frame.work editor?
..for context and current reason, Iâm making up a SVG thatâs 1:1 dimensions for the FW12 on a post in the FW12 sub-forum, and I can share that as a jpeg, but if I could upload SVGâs and people use them it would make a great deal of sense.
Especially as STLâs are used for 3d printing and SVGâs are used for a lot of other things (laser cutting, engraving, designs etc).
worth a shot
@Matt_Hartley Thank you for reopening the Laptop 12 threads. But I think you also need to reopen the Ubuntu 24.04 on the Framework Laptop 12 too.
Good catch, done.
As @TheTRUEAsian suggested here this thread is meant as a continuation of a discussion that started here:
I totally get the fine distinction that @Destroya is trying to make here. Donât agree with @tripplehelix that the link should be completely removed from the support mega menu, but I agree that itâs function is not really clear where it is grouped into currently.
As a user I would definitely assume that a community forum linked under âSupport > Resourcesâ might be a place for official support. A clearer distinction between official resources fully curated and operated by Framework and community resources might help form clearer expectations.
Quick mockup⌠not a designer, but it should demonstrate my point⌠could even have additional headers highlighting âOfficial resourcesâ and âCommunity maintained resourcesâ:
If you are aware of the explanation by @Destroya then the word âCommunityâ in âCommunity forumâ might carry a lot of weight. Something thatâs really not obvious at a quick glance for (I would assume) most visitors.
PS: Was not sure what âthe suggestion threadâ referred to and could not find one that matches the topic. So I started a new one.
My issue is that itâs not a Support
forum, itâs a community
forum. Thereâs much more here than just support. This is the official place for community discussion, projects etc.
It used to be a big part of the main header of the site, showing that Framework is here for the greater community. It has since been hidden under the support tag causing it to become just that.
Hereâs how it used to look;
Personally I understand why they removed it from the main header with the ever-growing product portfolio. I respect that decision.
Assuming it will not be part of the main header again I would prefer to at least keep it in the Support sub-menu, but make it clear that itâs primarily a community resource.
Would also restructure the footer, as the links are not ideal IMO currently.
Right now:
Community
Community Forum
Support
Repair Guides
IMO would be better:
Support
Knowledge Base
Repair GuidesCommunity
Community Forum
