FW12 Batch 0 Guild

Really glad to hear it’s not too hot warmth wise, I think mine (I’m a bit sensitive to heat on the lap which is one of / my biggest use case(s) for it) will be manageable, but I’m in batch 2,

Were you just setting up, pottering around etc? I’m guessing if you put it under strain it does get uncomfortably hot? (I don’t plan on doing that but just for reference)

I got the white one! And on the inside it says i5 so I think I’m all good, super excited to use it

Not sure if this will embed properly… someone’s experiences of it - I am a little concerned again tbh

There is no hard separation between any batches. When the FL16s were being batch shipped there could be up to 4 batches active at any one time, it depends on the options you have ordered and what options are rolling off the production line at that point.

I hope BYO RAM/SSD counts as a simple config; I can’t wait until Sage starts shipping out.

Hello batch 0

For those of you (and in other batches as well of course) who are bringing your own RAM to a DIY laptop 12, once you’ve used it for a little while if you don’t mind sharing exactly which model of RAM you’re using and how it’s going so far, that would be awesome for the rest of us who are yet to purchase their RAM. The following thread seems like the right place to do so: Which RAM-modules to use?

It would be especially interesting for memory modules that are not mentioned in the Knowledge Base article about memory modules for the Laptop 12.

Thanks, and enjoy your new laptop!

I decided to buy a 48gb module since it was the max the FW12 supports and coincidentally seemed like I may as well. It’s Crucial-branded, and I expect it’ll be… fine? I don’t usually think about RAM brands, I just plug in the specs I want to PC Part Picker and take whatever’s got a combination of low price and good-enough reviews.

It’s amazing to me how much manufacturers like Apple charge for storage and memory upgrades versus how affordable it is to buy direct. Huge & underrated value add for Framework.

Larger memory modules should work, FYI.

I can confirm the Crucial 64GB stick works.

sweeet

What!? That is awesome! Would you mind linking the exact ram chip you bought?

Since it’s not in the official RAM list - can confirm, that Corsair 32 GB 5200MHz (CMSX32GX5M1A5200C44) works.

Seconding this - 64gb confirmed to be working on my 12" as well.

I just ordered this:

Corsair CL46 - CT64G56C46S5 DDR5 5600 64gb

This matches the states of the supplied RAM, and I found out that my display is actually fine, the RAM chip was just bad. Getting a replacement RAM, but thought I would try this one as I would prefer more RAM.

Any ddr5 sodimm should work, they all follow the same standard.

Loving my laptop it’s working great! Also to add on for me my crucial 64gb ram has been working perfectly fine. Also earlier the ceo said he was running 64gb in his so I don’t think you should have to worry!

Other things to note, it dose get a bit hotter then I expected but also this is my first ever real laptop I’ve had. I wouldn’t say it’s uncomfortable unless it’s directly on your skin like if you’re wearing shorts and have it on your lap. I don’t think the fan has been much of an issue and I don’t hear it much at all. My battery life I haven’t tested much but so far seems better then reviews but not by much. Also the screen definitely is pretty bad at showing deep reds most just turn out orangey or pinkish so I would say for art hook it up to an external display.

It sounds like this is pretty consistent and not just a one-off for mine. I’m glad it’s working well for you otherwise. Cheers!

thank you for this, is it in normal (balanced I think by default) mode? if you try the energy saver mode it might run a bit cooler

DDR5 is usually touchy when you have more modules; a single SODIMM should be fine.
