FW12 Batch 0 Guild

Shipping usually doesn’t take more than a week so that’s just a very minor difference.

It’s very nearly a quarter of a month, which could mean late June delivery. Batch 0 could get their email this week, and sure it would be nice to know if the release schedule has slipped, but we all just need to be patient.

The best outcome would be getting shipping mail this week, but line from their X post “Reviews will go live and we’ll start shipping the first customer units in a couple of weeks.” doesn’t give me hope.

I will wait patiently but at least let me know why does shipping day delayed.

Lack of communication/information and watch those tech reviewer get free laptop before batch 0 participants leaves sour taste in my mouth.

It takes work to review a laptop, so free is a stretch, and 1st customer units could be Batch 1, you’re 0th. I hope Framework provides an update, but I don’t think you have long to wait.

I’m not really surprised by this but based on the twitter post being posted on June 7th it seems like batch 0 is absolutely shipping in late June. (June 7th + 14 days = June 21st) meaning batch 0 people likely won’t get their device until around the 28th assuming it takes a week to ship.

I do get why batch 0 people would be frustrated with this because it does seem a little weird to say “ships early June” when it super doesn’t. The 21st of June is late June, and I don’t think many would disagree on that.

I think in the future framework should probably just leave these types of rewards out and replace them with a free shirt or something. Might be easier to manage. One of the reasons I didn’t go with donating for batch 0 was because I anticipated this type of thing from Framework, and $250 is a lot to pay for getting the laptop shipped maybe a few days early at best.

I’d rather donate 50 dollars to hack club and get a free hat, But that’s just my two cents. I’m sure this is all new and a learning experience for Framework.

Yup, we need answers. Stop been radio silence, framework.

Same for me. I think the $250 to support the initiative is great. Agree that different awards next time might really work out better.

Also agree with the thread sentiment that some transparency would be wonderful.

Disclaimer: I’m batch 1, but similarly surprised by the lack of communication. Especially since this is not their first product launch with similar issues IIRC. Would have expected they prepare pro-active communication for different scenarios in advance that can go out easily, even when it’s stressful during shipping crunch.

For what it’s worth: there is a real possibility batch 0 might ship very soon and they referenced the later batches with “in a few weeks”. Looking forward to them clearing that up and giving us a quick update with how it’s going.

At the end of the day I’ll be fine anyway. Looking forward to more info, many upcoming reviews and videos to keep myself entertained, until I finally can join the userbase.

Definitely could be possible that they were actually referring to batch 1 in the tweet, which would be great.

Unfortunately, I doubt it, because early June is over today. We are now in mid June, so the shipping statement is still wrong.

Guess we’ll see how it goes.

I would guess that frameworks philosophy is, that reviews of tech-influencers and tech-journalists should be published before the first customer units go out, so that customers can react to the outcomes of the review and adjust their orders.

I already submitted another request to support demand more information, I wouldn’t surprised if reply is another canned response.

This doesn’t change the facts that framework didn’t plan out batch 0 shipment, they should send out review/press units in May and prepare batch 0 and batch 1 in June.
(If they shipped review/press units in May, it wouldn’t cause frustration because it’s simply not batch 0 shipping month.)

add:
If they are having trouble, they should just tell their customers.

add2:
I think most of people would understand by the size of framework there will be manufacture difficulties, but again being radio silence is not the way to solve problem.

I share this sentiment. I would have been more inclined to do a donation if there were smaller incentives - like unexpensive goodies - for smaller tiers…

I also feel that the batch 0 scheme was not defined in a clear way. A donation is a gift for charity or to benefit a cause that is given without the expectation of anything in return (I’m paraphrasing Wikipedia). Here there may have been the additional incentive to be able to ‘jump the queue’, not more. In my opinion this does not transfer to any special or preferential treatment.

Evidently, the batch 0 scheme could also be understood as a transactional act where you are entitled to the above mentioned treatment because of the money you gave. We can see it in this thread.

So depending how you look at this new ‘batch 0’ scheme, it can be cause for frustration if expectations are undercut (subverted may be too strong a word here). The problem may lie in the name of the scheme i.e. ‘donation’.

This. Does the zero in ‘batch 0’ imply that you will receive your order before reviews are out or even at the same time reviewers are receiving their press units? The more I think about it, the more confusing this batch 0 shenanigans get, haha.

I agree with what you’re saying and the only thing I would add is that if Framework viewed this whole batch 0 incentive as “prioritized shipping” then they should have worded it as such. Instead of just claiming that it ships early June.

They could have said something like “If you donate $250 we will Prioritize your order if possible.”

They didn’t and that’s where the frustration comes from.

They said “Ships priority in early June for Black/Gray.”

If you don’t want people’s expectations to be skewed, then be very clear about what you are offering.

Donations should be done without an expectation of anything in return, so offering a reward is asking for entitlement because it’s not just a donation anymore.

Couldn’t agree more.

And if expectations cannot be fulfil, be honest and communicate.

Exactly, hence I wrote that the problem may lie in the name of the scheme. It is all part of the ‘no clear definition’ of the scheme.

There is no way for me to know, but I suspect that all the batches may have slipped to a later date and it is not just the batch 0 that suddenly stopped being special. I fully expect batch 0 to arrive before all other batches.

edit: I just want to add that release dates absolutely can move to a later date (it happens all the time); even if you spend an extra $250!
Some communication would not hurt though…

I’d be extremely surprised if this wasn’t the case, to be honest.

Just adding my 2 cents. The way I see it, ship dates when it comes to pre-orders are always estimates, and subject to change. Batch 0 says you get “priority” shipping. I always took this to mean that once customer orders start shipping, Batch 0 will go out first. Not that they would go out before review units or even significantly earlier, in general. Just that they would ship before other batches. Honestly, depending on how many “Batch 0” units there are, I wouldn’t expect much time at all between Batch 0 and Batch 1. For instance, if they only have 20 batch 0 orders and 100 batch 1 orders, batch 1 would likely start shipping almost the same time as batch 0. I always saw the main benefit of batch 0 being the opportunity to jump to the head of the line, once pre-orders were up to higher batch numbers. Rather than a way to get it significantly sooner than batch 1.

Obviously, this is all hypothetical, but imagine a scenario where they could pack and ship 100 units a day. If they only have 20 batch 0 orders, it’s feasible that all 20 batch 0 and the first 80 of batch 1 could go out the same day. Again, this is all just speculation.

For what it’s worth, that’s always been my interpretation.

That’s completely fair.

In that case it might not have been a good idea for them to say something as definitive as “ships priority in early June” in my opinion. With that statement, they’ve backed themselves into a 10-day window for shipping. Still an estimate, but not a very loose one.

Alternative to match the intent: “Estimated to ship in early June.”

Well, they give the statement that ”Ships priority in early June for Black/Gray. Ships priority early July for Sage/Bubblegum/Lavender” when I ordered and donated back to April, so I expect my Framework 12 should already in shipping process now.

The reality is, they clearly unable to fulfil this promise and instead apologise and explain to their customers, they keeps us in radio silence.

Until today there are no one official account come out and explain what happened.

We only get

I don’t think this is acceptable.
