As we were preparing Framework Laptop 13 Pro for mass production ramp, we discovered two issues, one on the new haptic touchpad and another on the custom display. We’ve since root caused and found solutions for both of these. However, to bring in these updates, we need to delay the start of mass production, which pushes first batch shipments about one month from late June into late July, with some risk of some units in early August
Unfortunate, but I’d rather have a fixed laptop than multiple support cycles after receiving it
Edited to say: Whilst this is obviously disappointing, I agree with @Naxels … better to find out in advance with a delay, than have to jump through hoops later to get things fixed.
Too bad for the first batches (I am batch 14 and will likely not be hit by this impact), but I like the transparency Framework gives us about the issues. And I like they will not ship products with known issues (saying as owner of a FW12 with a cracked -and changed- case)
Slightly surprised at how last minute it feels the call was to announce the delay. It also paints a picture of how short the delay is from manufacturing to shipping on batch 1. I work at an SI and our odm production run is more than a month from prep to shipping to us, and this is a product they sell to others too.
I’m batch 8 though, so I’m wondering, if and how that affects me. They say their goal is to catch up with planned August deliveries. Kinda doubt they’ll make it, if they say there is a risk that some batch 1 could be pushed to August.
