I just got my FW13 Pro Intel and when the battery is fully charged and the charger is plugged in, the laptop will keep flipping between charging and discharging which causes a beep every few seconds. I’m running Ubuntu 24.04 which came preinstalled with BIOS 3.02. Is this a bug within Ubuntu or with the laptop?
Have a look at your Power Statistics dialogue - I wonder if it drops from 100% to the slightest bit of usage then it will go to 99% and go back to charging. I’d guess one should be able to disable that, e.g. by setting it to charge only when it loses at least X% of charge.
However I would be inclined instead to disable the charged/charging sound, and let the charging circuits do what they want. I am guessing the bleep is from Ubuntu reacting to an event, rather than a lower-level system in the laptop running an ordinary bleep.
It’s probably a BIOS bug, as the latest BIOS version is designed to mitigate this by adding a 5% hysteresis loop rather than flipping charge/discharge status within 1%
Thanks for your input Squiggler and Charlie_6. I opened a case with Framework. I’ll see what they say.
For now I disabled the alert sound within Ubuntu.
After jumping through every hoop imaginable with Framework support, it was deemed that the Framework charger was defective. When I used a 3rd party charger with the FW13 Pro, it did not exhibit the same behavior.
They ended up shipping me a new charger which so far has been charging to 100% without the constant charge/discharge flipping. Hopefully this is a one-off and is not a widespread issue amongst users.
Not common at all, very likely it is a one-off with the charger. Glad you got it sorted with support and a replacement charger.
