I don’t know if anyone else is having this, but I’ve been recently noticing some strange things with my touchpad. I usually pick up my laptop by the bottom left corner, which on my laptop causes it to register a left click, which can be annoying. I’ve also noticed a strange popping sound when squeezing the right hand side.
You’re picking it up like you show in the video, by one hand with your thumb holding it at it’s lower left corner by the tackpad?
Without a GPU module installed, it is 2.1 kg / 4.6 lbs. Just a thumb at the corner puts a lot of leverage concentrated into 2-3cm².
Considering there has to be some tradeoff in absolute rigidity in some places in order to have such easily removable & re-arrangeable input modules, I don’t know if it’s reasonable to expect no effect ever with that amount of force. And you have your trackpad offset to the same left side where you’re applying force. I imagine if your trackpad was centered instead, then it might tolerate holding it with one thumb at the corner.
The right-hand side just looks like spacers shifting / clicking a bit? Framework hasn’t got fitment to be perfect yet. Maybe some rubber padding on the underside of the modules to provide compliant give when inserted but keep things tight otherwise. Someone has done that with a 3d printed replacement spacer & it looks like it works well.
I am, yeah, but in the video I’m actually just squeezing it. After messing with it a bit more, I’ve figured out that it happens only when my thumb is just to the left of the actual touchpad. The right side doesn’t have the same issue.
