Linux Mint Cinnamon becoming jerky - youtubes, Sys Mon have pauses but OS OK

*Didn’t realize “Framework Laptop 13” / “Framework” was specific hardware. Posted here because of @Clem’s fix. My apologies.

Post….

I’ve been creating a Windows 10 replacement  on i7-3930K (6 cores, 12 threads), 66GB, Geforce GTX 1050 (nvidia) to 3 montiors.

After a couple of weeks, I solved my cinnamon ‘freeze’ problem with @Clem’s post using the boot command.

But now I’ve noticed over the last couple of days that Cinnamon can suddenly start showing things in a jerky, pausing manner. For example, Chrome / youtubes play, pause, play, pause - unwatchable. Looking closer around the desktop, I notice the System Monitor GUI was also pausing, play, pause as it shows CPU useage. So it’s seems it’s Cinnamon rather than OS/processes running.

The 1st time I rebooted the whole machine but this 2nd time I wised up and just did CRTL+ALT+ESC to restart Cinnamon… which cleared it right up and is a nicer workaround as it doesn’t interfere with all the running stuff and youtubes play smoothly after that.

I’ve been doing a lot of installs, tweaks, terminals open/close as I get things setup but wondering is it just me? what’s likely causing this? and of course is there a fix? The CTRL+ALT+ESC is a reasonable workaround for me - but it would be better to understand/fix.

Installed Linux Mint 2.3….

TMI: On a positive note, I’ve been working on this migration from Windows → Mint several weeks now and have found alternatives to most things I was doing on Windows. Running Workstation Pro 17 + rrdesktop let’s me continue to support remaining windows stuff such as the Win 11 VM required for Turbo Tax starting this year. All in all, I’m excited to make this move, the Cinnamon desktop is just fine (I like it!) and want to smooth out the kinks (such as Cinnamon getting jerky) as much as possible
