My blind squirrel moment…
yeah
I edited it so there won’t be confusion about it
I figured out the backlight
headphones don’t work and there is no option in sound to enable them
headphones aren’t mentioned anywhere
Have you installed the driver bundle?
cant unzip the file
couldn’t got 7zip
files wouldn’t open the computer refuses to do a lot of stuff because it says it can’t
You don’t need to unzip the driver bundle to run it. Just double click on it like a .exe to run it.
no archive opened message popup
Can you send a video of what exactly happens when you try to run the driver bundle?
I can try ~ it will take me a while to get to it
I am able to take a screenshot from the upper right hand corner stuff and there appears to be an option to make a video ~ but I’ve never seen that option on anything before and I always wondered how people made videos of their screen ~ so I’ve never done it before
tried to make a bootable windows usb at the library ~ god I hate windows
I love mac
so far I hate ubuntu ~ but I’m thankful that it at least partially works and allows me to access youtube
I think the trackpad sucks really bad when it comes to a two finger click ~ and what makes it an even bigger dissappointment is that I spent over $3000.00 on the laptop
There have been problems with some downloads of the Framework windows driver bundle.
Check the SHA256 with:
Windows sha256:
certUtil -hashfile C:\file.img SHA256
Linux sha256:
sha256sum file.img
If the sha256 checksum does not match, try downloading the driver bundle again.
I honestly have no Idea what you just said with my computer illiterate 6th grade education
Headphones don’t work
everytime I look for solutions online ~ people say type whatever into command ~ but every time I do it says command does not exist
Hi,
If you are used to MAC, then both windows and Linux will be a bit of a step change.
At least you have it booting now which is good progress.
I would say Linux is closer to MAC.
There are even desktops for Linux that look very like a MAC.

@Richard_Mark_Stiles
Which OS are you trying on the laptop? Windows or Linux?
Which model of Framework Laptop do you have?
it’s not that I don’t like windows ~ it’s that I don’t like windows not working and being difficult
speaking of being difficult ~ my mac won’t let me use any of my external harddrives that are password protected since installing os updates and western digital offers no solutions online ~ even though western digital isn’t the only stuff I’m using ~ it’s the stuff that I tried to use
I have ubuntu on the laptop because I can’t get windows to boot
I paid $199.00 for the windows pro
I am trying to install windows because I would like to have headphones etc.
ubuntu is trying to be difficult which I think is not a good thing
Are those versions that are like mac compatible with what I have ?
Framework Laptop 16
Powered by AMD Ryzen™ 7040HS and Radeon™ RX 7700S
thats the laptop I got with 3000.00$ of parts in it
I have a FW16 with Ubuntu 24.04 and my usb headphones work ok. I did not need to do anything special to get them working.
My knowledge of windows and mac is limited, but hopefully others can help you create a windows bootable usb stick on mac.
With Ubuntu, does everything else work, is it just the headphones that are the problem?
To make changes to where the audio comes out, headphones vs speakers, if you click on the top right corner, where it has the Wifi, Speaker, Power symbols.
Click on the settings wheel/cog.
It should bring up a settings window.
Select the “sound” one.
You will then be able to select which sound device you wish the sound to come out from, and press the “test” button to hear some sound out of the speakers or headphones.
I have not needed to adjust the settings, because it tends to automatically switch to headphones when you plug them in.
