I tried to set up a new FW12 for my wife. Followed the hardware setup instructions, powered on, selected the USB installation medium to boot from, waited…it turned itself off.
Tried a couple more times, the laptop now will not respond to the power button at all.
I’ve reached out to support, so far without result, but I wasn’t sure if there was anything obvious I was missing.
Seen this a few times and it is usually the RAM. If there is any problem with the RAM the GPU does not initialize and as a result you will have no display. Because the system fails to post the system powers down.
So I would try adjusting the RAM and seeing if it works.

Right, no. Both sets of RAM work in my machine. Neither set of RAM works in the new one.
Check the RAM slot for bent pins, there were a few people who had that. If that’s not it, I would say contact support from here.
Try booting to BIOS without RAM?
I don’t think the display can work without system RAM installed.
