Hello All,
I think my mainboard might have died but wanted to see if anyone else has any ideas.
I was using the computer normally streaming video this morning no problem.
I walked away from it for a little while and came back and it appeared to have shut off right as I walked back into the room as I saw the power light on the top go out.
Figured no problem just press the button to turn it back on.
It was fully charged earlier and plugged into the official Framework charger as well so should still be fully charged.
But pressing the button gives no response. Either on the top power button or on the white led on the side where I have the charger plugged in.
Here is also a video of what it was doing. This was after I started working on it to try and fix the problem. I normally have the machine propped up off the table.
So far I have tried the following:
removed and reinserted the battery (with machine unplugged), left it out for about 10 minutes and held power button for 2 minutes approx.
removed all expansion modules
removed all storage drives
tried each of the 2 sticks one at a time in both slots
tried the main board reset (plug in and press intrusion button for 2 seconds and the release for 2 seconds repeat 10 times)
After doing each of those steps I reassembled the top panel and connector and try to power it on again.
This does not seem to have made a difference.
Is it likely that the mainboard is dead?
This would be the second time I have had to swap a mainboard on this machine as I had to do it before when I was having screen flickering issues and charging problems on the top right port with the last one.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I really don’t want to go buy another mainboard.
Hopefully you are just summarizing in your list of things you have tried.
The “main board reset” is missing a few steps. (unplugging PSU steps missing. See below)
One thing to try will reset the EC.
Power off laptop (I guess you already have that)
Unplug the PSU for 2 minutes, then plug it back in.
That will reset the EC.
Then try the power button again.
The main board reset process is this:
B. If the issue persists, please reset the mainboard using the guide below.
Please turn off the laptop and unplug the charger.
Remove the input module, touchpad module, spacers, and Mid Plate, then plug in the charger.
Slowly press the chassis open switch/case switch 10 times, holding each press for 2 seconds. Release, wait for the red blink on the mainboard LED, then repeat this step.
Please see the location of the chassis open switch for reference.

Press the power button to boot the system.
Other things to try:
Unplug NVME storage.
Unplug all the expansion cards except the one the power plugs into.
Unplug the PSU.
Then try to power on.
Plug in PSU
Then try to power on.
If you try to power on, and wait a few minutes, does the led on the side flash? If so, record with video the flashes.
Hello @James3,
You are correct. I was just summarizing the steps I was taking.
The PSU was unplugged while I opened the machine and then plugged it in again before doing those steps.
I left it plugged in while assembling the machine again and tried turning it on.
It did not have any blink codes and just stayed lit white with it plugged in indicting fully charged.
Sometimes pressing and holding it will do either a quick blink once red or a quick blink once blue but that is rare and not every time I press the button to turn it on.
If I have the top panel open and press the power button it blinks once red and then once blue and goes back to white.
90% of the time though it just stays white led on the side and the one on the top does not lite up at all like in the video posted above.
Those last few steps also did not help and does the same thing where it just stays white when I press the power button.
I don’t have any more suggestions, apart from you might as well raise a support ticket with FW, via their web site.
Here are just other users like you.
Thank you for the advice though. I did open a ticket with them as well.
Figured i would check with the community to see if maybe there was something i might have missed.
Sad that i seem to be going through a mainboard a year with this machine if it turns out it died.
I replaced one back in June of last year for a graphics issue that would flicker and one port failed to work anymore for charging.
After following up with support, they also believe the main board died in me. So i guess i will buy a new one and install that when it comes in. Hope the new one will last more than a year and they don’t come out with an upgraded one in a few months.
Update. Got the new board and installed it and it is booting again. But it seems like the dgpu and a stick of ram isn’t working anymore though. I think the bad board fried a lot of stuff.
