One key stopped working

I have the Framework 16 laptop. It was working perfectly, but specifically, my D key has stopped working. When my laptop is under load, the issue gets worse over time. I have tried reseating the keyboard module, but nothing has worked. This is particularly annoying when I need it for gaming. Do you believe that getting a new keyboard module would fix this issue?

Welcome to the community.

To help determine if it is the laptop keyboard try plugging in an external keyboard either before or when the D key stops working. If it works on the external keyboard then likely it is something with the original keyboard. (This is more likely if gaming is done on the laptop)

Fortunately they are simple and inexpensive to replace. For good measure, check the contacts and pogo pins that the keyboard contacts and make sure they are clean.

Alternatively, move the keyboard to a different set of pins on the layout, if the problem follows then more than likely the keyboard module is the culprit.

Otherwise the midplate and associated connectors would be the next steps to investigate.

The FW 16 keyboard has some known durability issues, see Keyboard repeating and missing letters, mostly one key (d) for example. Heat seems to be a contributing factor. If only one key doesn’t work, it’s most likely a hardware defect.
I’ve had mine replaced under warranty due to the “alt” key becoming unreliable.
