Speculation: ‘Something big’ refers to the FW16.
FW16 Strix Halo incoming?
woo, FW16 related hopefully
If it is for the 16, I do hope there’s a conversation on the bios situation for the 16. In theory I would like to refresh it, but I don’t think I would without some bios love
FW16 feels like a good guess. Strix upgrade seems the most likely, but I’m going to throw out my biggest wishlist item and hope for OLED.
16 could really use some attention. Lots of things still needed work, lots of other things being built..
I would hope not to have a board that requires soldered ram. It will be interesting to see what they have cooked up.
Will this finally be the day we get the Framework Printer?
13 dots there… could spell (Framework 16”
), but just as easily (...13"
) or (...12"
) Hmmm…
I’m hoping for pogo pins to connect the 13” keyboard. But I guess this is to do with either the mini PC or 16”. Or there’s a new line of laptops coming.
Just hope Framework doesn’t spread their team too thin.
A week to wildly speculate!
Selfishly hoping for some FW16 upgrade options. Either a new GPU or a strix halo board. Seems like there are plenty of logical obstacles to both, but a person can dream. I’d probably even take the soldered ram of the latter if 64/128 was as affordable as the desktop configs.
Intentional overanalysis:
There are thirteen diamonds, so it’s an update for the FW13. The email teaser image has 7 diamonds in parenthesis, so it’s the seventh Gen of FW13, possibly an Intel version. I wonder if it’s “big” because they’re launching a 14” version of the chassis.
I hope I’m wrong though. I’d love some FW16 updates.
Edit: fixed misspellings
There are already seven generations of the Laptop 13.
*furiously recounting*
Intel 11th gen, Intel 12th Gen, Intel 13th Gen, Intel core ultra, Ryzen 7000, Ryzen AI. I suppose I’m skipping the Chromebook version. What else have I missed?
Risc-V
Why skip it? The missing middle generation is the Chromebook. It was a different mainboard design than the Intel Core 12th Gen despite using the came CPUs.
The RISC-V mainboard is a third-party product; the Chromebook was not.
I think a lot of people don’t like to count the Chromebook because it was sold as a different product. It had it’s own product page and was not advertised as interchangeable with the standard models due to some hardware differences.
As a owner of a FW13 I wouldn’t mind an OLED screen…
But the FW16 needs some love!
