Regional NSW. Fingers crossed there are no delays out of Sydney to the regional depos
Regional VIC here, mine says Wednesday too
The Netherlands have seen payment confirmations!
Heads up for others who used iDeal. Framework can’t charge you automatically so you will get an e-mail asking you to manually pay the remaining balance. After which you’ll get the shipping soon mail .
In the states, the packages shipped 2h ago, and the package has left TaoYuan.
However, no shipping estimate was provided. Based on previous batch, it should be here by he end of the week. However, I just hope thar prime day sale will not mess up the delivery.
I don’t love the dismissive hand waving of this.
Simple fact, those of us who are kit purchasers, are, in all likelihood, people whom have been supporting Framework for longer, and yet here we are being treated as second class.
This is not a good look.
They have stated that their QA process for the units going out is more difficult when it is a board kit, since they essentially fully assemble, test the unit, then disassemble, package and send sure, fine, but being first in line for pre-orders and purchasing should actually mean something, otherwise, what is the point?
They can and should do better.
Not a fact. Instead, a whole bunch of assumptions to counter someone else’s assumptions. There is no reason to believe they are purposely deprioritizing your order because you ordered just a mainboard. That makes no sense. It is of course in their best interest to make everyone as happy as possible with their limited resources as a small company, and while it’s unfortunate that the way it turned out, whether calculated or just the way things worked out, resulted in not meeting your expectations, but don’t take it so personally. It hasn’t even been a week yet. Just hang in there, they’re gettin’ to you!
Sorry, but this is a Karen-like level of assumptions kludged together.
Where are my assumptions?
I’ve personally been supporting framework since their initial offerings, most ordering mainboards would probably be upgrading from previous, thus having supported previously.
Are there those that would purchase a whole new one on top of one they already had? Yes, but I imagine they are fewer and farther between.
So - in the one case I can confirm, fact.
The remainder, about their QA, is available from LTT video of their trip to FW in Taiwan. A process they stated they are going to improve.
Battery sleep update from yesterday:
Ubuntu, no changes to power profile stuff:
Put it asleep at 16% and 10 hours later it was at 8%. Pretty good. All I did was close the lid and nothing more!
Not bad! Thanks for sharing! A obligatory note here is that while 8% in 10h may seem high, the battery is also pretty low and would discharge quicker. If you were to sleep it at 100%, it could well be 4% or less.
On a side note, have you tried / or could you try a shut down battery test where the laptop is switched off and left so for a couple of days? There was an issue with earlier iterations of the Intel versions that would discharge the battery way more than expected despite being powered off. IIRC the issue was later fixed with a BIOS update, but curious if present in 1st gen AMD boards.
Edit: scratch incorrect statement (see reply below)
That’s not how laptop batteries work.
The percentages there are relative to the total energy, not by charge or voltage so there isn’t any difference between 8% at 10% or 8% at 100% (outside of calibration issues).
He just got a computer that he’s been waiting 6 months for, and you want him to shut it down and put it away for a few days???
I stand corrected. Presumably the battery IC keeps track of the energy usage through regular measurements and reports back capacity against full charge capacity? I would indeed expect an accurate report by the IC but my personal experience with all laptops to date has always been that the lower the reported percentage, the faster it drains under constant workload. I will take this away as homework, thanks for the correction.
What’s your point? I said “could you”, implying a polite ask, if possible. There’s no time frame or obligation. It’s English 101. If Zach1 cannot or doesn’t want to - that’s fine, he doesn’t have to.
I get the excitement (we’re all excited), but sometimes people in this thread are really starting to look for issues where there aren’t any.
In the land of the tech-savvy, where impatience does sprout,
“We’ve been charged!” some declare, others filled with doubt.
For the elusive Ryzen, we all eagerly pine,
But Framework’s timeline? It’s hardly a straight line.
“Are you Batch 1 or 2?” we query in jest,
Hoping against hope, ours will be dispatched next.
We check our accounts, once, twice, thrice a day,
But alas, for many, no charge holds sway.
Some say in Germany and France, cards have been hit,
While in the USA, we just sit and twit.
Is it a game of luck, or a digital dance?
Or perhaps Framework’s just giving us a merry prance?
I heard a rumor (or maybe a jest),
That Framework’s charging only those who click refresh best.
Another said, “It’s a secret code, didn’t you know?
Tap your card thrice, spin around, and give it a go!”
Oh, the waiting game, so annoyingly real,
It’s like waiting for a three-course, gourmet meal.
But instead of food, it’s tech we await,
Hoping it arrives before it’s too late.
So here we all stand, in this digital queue,
Hoping, wishing, our orders come through.
Dear Framework, oh please, can’t you see?
Charge us already, set our tech spirits free!
Exactly, there is a thing called a coulomb-counter that meters all the power coming in and going out of the battery, it’s the same thing it uses to estimate wear. it can get pretty confused if you never charge or discharge the battery fully.
Are you sure your workload is constant and it’s not just that you are paying more attention to the battery when it is lower?
Nah, I’ll wait till it arrives. Especially after seeing the pics @OxFF posted of the translucent one that I ordered. Thanks for the suggestion tho
USA here, was charged on the 9th very late in the night
I was so excited, I could hardly sleep tight
I checked my email, hoping for a shipping confirmation
But all I got was a generic notification
It said “Your order is being processed, please be patient”
But patience is not my strongest trait, I must admit
I want to know when my Framework laptop will be shipped
And when I can finally hold it in my grip
I know Framework is doing their best, they are not to blame
They have to deal with supply chain issues and global demand
They are trying to create a new paradigm in the tech game
And I appreciate their vision and their grand plan
But still, I can’t help but feel a bit anxious and restless
Waiting for my laptop to arrive at my address
I hope it won’t be too long, or too much of a mess
I hope it will be worth it, and impress me no less
Edit: Checked my email immediately after this and I have shipping confirmation. Should be here Friday (assuming that FedEx doesn’t screw up yet another shipment to my address by claiming my ZIP code doesn’t exist)
How did you get your hands on the clear bezel? My understanding was they were having trouble manufacturing them reliably
To the eager tech soul, from the USA land,
Your excitement and passion, we fully understand.
The thrill of a charge, late into the night,
Sets one’s heart racing, oh what a delight!
But the email that follows, so generic and plain,
Can dampen the spirits, bringing a touch of pain.
Patience, dear user, is a virtue so rare,
Especially when waiting for tech beyond compare.
Framework’s vision, a paradigm new,
Is bound to have hiccups, a delay or two.
But your patience is required, so please wait Matthew.
Supply chains do falter, demands ever soar,
But they’re crafting a laptop you’re sure to adore.
Your anxiousness, restlessness, all very real,
A sentiment many of us certainly feel.
Yet, when that laptop lands at your door,
It’ll be all you hoped for, and even more.
Hold on, dear friend, just a bit longer,
For with every tick, your laptop BIOS grows stronger.
And when it arrives, oh, the joy it will bring,
Making every moment of waiting a worthy thing.
They made some and put them on the configurator until they were sold out. But they decided not to make any more because of the low yield with the current molds and process.
