Speaker failure when getting warm

Hi,

I have a new one:
Since a few days, the speakers fail when the FW12 heats up during charging. When I lift it on the front, so the chassis slightly bends downwards, I can hear sound again. When disconnecting from the charger and the battery cools down, speakers start to work normally again after a few minutes.

I already checked the sound board, removed it, cleaned alle the contacts but no improvement.

Anyone with similar issues or advice, before I open a ticket?

I have a similar issue, though it only affects my left speaker so far. I had not initially connected the heat factor, as it mostly seemed to be affected by which way the bottom case was flexing: if the case flexes with the bottom left corner flexing up (towards the screen) the speaker goes out, if I put slight pressure in the opposite direction (or prop the machine up with a pen under the right corner) the speaker comes back. When I’m typing some key pressed on the left side of the keyboard can cause the speaker to start/stop working, and if I press down on the top of the case about 2” left of the trackpad both speakers go out until pressure is removed.

However the battery/thermal impact also fits my symptoms as occasionally the speaker will go out while the laptop is sitting on a table plugged into power but not actively being touched.

I also opened the machine and inspected the audio board. No visible issues with the hardware or contacts. My next plan is to see if it’s possible to safely shim under the audio board (essentially providing that slight upwards flex), but that seems like a suboptimal solution.

@Lukas_Angermayer if you wound up submitting a ticket and have learned anything more please let me know.

@Lukas_Angermayer I’m dealing with the same thing :frowning: No idea what’s causing it though, just joining in with @drags to see if you got any updates at all?

I did not submit a ticket yet, but tried something myself:
I added some small piece of foam under the speaker contacts to push them upwards to the audio board. That helped a bit but not 100% against heavier case flex.
Then I tightend the bottom screw near the audio bord a bit stronger, and that fixed it (for now),

On the other hand, I fear more risk of case cracks in this area now
