just received my fw12, still getting accustomed to it. A question regarding the clickiness of the touchpad. Is the touchpad supposed to have a click when pressed everywhere on the pad or just in the lower 2/3rds of the pad? In my case there is no deep press in the the upper 1/3 of the pad.

That behavior is correct. It is what is sometimes called a “diving board” style. Really, it’s hinged at the top and the “button” is at the bottom. So the closer you push towards the top, the closer you are pushing to the hinge, and the more force it will take. Really close to the top, it will be almost impossible to make it click.
