Troubleshooting dead screen Laptop 16

Hi, are there any general troubleshooting guidelines for the Framework 16?

My screen has stopped working entirely, like it’s not getting any power. I’ve removed and reinstalled the screen without any change and I’d like to try to narrow the problem down. I’m using it with an external monitor for the moment (hooray, modular IO!), but of course, that’s not what I got a laptop for. Is there any article that describes the troubleshooting steps for the onboard screen?

My system:
Framework Laptop 16 2nd Gen
AMD AI 370
Integrated graphics
running Nobara Linux 43
Kernel 7.0.9-200

Hi, I’m not familiar with the official guidelines, but I recommend opening the bottom cover of the laptop and checking that the connector for the display cable on the motherboard is fully inserted. I also recommend checking if a faded image appears in the background of the screen, such as the Framework logo.

Screens can go out. Though it is nice sometimes if there is a forewarning.

After carefully reseating both connectors (at the main board AND the back of the display, the cheapest fix might be just a display cable though it is more likely the display itself.

Maybe look at the schematics and check there is voltage coming out at the connector on the mainboard (this might be difficult) or at the end of the display cable. (Be careful not to short out any adjacent pins, this could be really bad for the mainboard)

If it is still under warranty contact support to get a case started with them.

Thank you guys for the responses. It looks like if I follow the directions for replacing the ventilation plate I’ll get at the connector for the screen on the mother board. I’ll try reseating that. @MiaoshaZhe, I think you’re recommending I see if the screen is working without a backlight ? I’m doing the best with the knowledge I have. Shining a bright light on the screen while the computer is on shows just a black screen.

The test was to see if the problem was the backlighting, but if you only see black, I recommend you try checking the various connectors as @pkunk already said, and if even trying to put them back doesn’t work, contact support directly.

Support it is. Thanks for the help!

An update: it looks as if the problem is in the screen. Framework is going to send me a new one. I’ve had a good interaction with support who have reacted rapidly.
