Upgraded from a Gen 12 1260p to a AI370- Same windows install

I swapped/upgraded my motherboard but decided to keep the same windows install for simplicity. Windows 11 Edu edition.
Everything seemed to go ok but my windows hello pin, fingerprint do not stick. Every time i turn off the computer it says there was an issue locating my pin. If I remove the fingerprints and pin, then reboot and add them back my laptop will work for a bit then bluescreen. The pin is again lost and the system instability stays. I remove the pin and fingerprints and everything works fine. I just have to type in my password each time. I have reset the settings a few time just to confirm that it happens each time. I have also deleted the NGC folder in an attempt to reset everything. Same issues when I add a pin back.

Anyone else have this issue?

Take a look at this post - it could help:

I was having the same issue with my eGPU, but it fixed it…
Just follow the mentioned steps and let us know if it solved your problem. :ok_hand:

  1. Remove Windows Hello.
  2. Suspend Bitlocker.
  3. Boot to BIOS and disable TPM.
  4. Boot to system and set up Windows Hello.
  5. Check with Powershell if Windows Hello keys are indeed stored on the disk now.
  6. Reboot to BIOS and enable TPM.
  7. Boot to system and resume Bitlocker.

I will give this a try. Thanks.

I did basically the same thing, but no issue. I had to re-setup Windows Hello, because its stuff is stored with the TPM and therefore tied to the old board. But after just setting it up again, everything works as it did before. Maybe try to reset / clear the TPM in its entirety and re-setup everything that uses it?

Only thing I have been worried about is that swap messing with some power efficiency options. Because the HX 370 is just worse then the 12th gen Intel in idle and in sleeping…

But seems like, at least currently, that might just be how it is and not fault of hackery of drivers in Windows.

UPDATE
This worked for me. I have been testing for a couple days.

  1. Removed all windows hello settings. No pin, no fingerprints, nothing. Just my account password
  2. I suspended bit locker
  3. Rebooted to bios, Cleared TPM
  4. Booted into windows - ran PowerShell to see that TPM was still available. (get-tpm)
  5. suspended bit locker again
  6. Rebooted to bios, this time I set TPM status to ‘hidden’
  7. booted windows
  8. ran PowerShell to see that TPM was NOT available. (get-tpm)
  9. set a windows hello pin
  10. I did some test reboots, also a shut down for a couple hours.
  11. Booted and put TPM back on
  12. Everything has been working fine
  13. I added my fingerprint back and still no issues.

Thanks Everyone
