Iām Nicolas, almost 40. Iām working for a major IT company (as you can guess from my profile picture).
As a student, I had two laptop : an Asus and an MSI.
When I started working, my company provided me with a Dell Latitude, then a Dell XPS.
Then I went to the dark side and bought an Apple Macbook Pro 13 inches, then a 15 inches.
After that, I wanted a piece of hardware a bit more open and upgradeable.
I went for a refurbished Lenovo X270 but the CPU was really sluggish. I tried two Lenovo Z13 but was kinda disappointed with reliability, overall quality and upgradeability.
Finally, I returned the Lenovo Z13. At this time, Framework announced the 13 inches AMD version and I immediately placed a pre-order.
Since then, I never looked back.

Hey, Iām Aiden, a 21 yo IT student,
I discovered framework from a friend when I started learning about IT and it has always been my dream to be able to have a new baby (endearment) to take care of and actually be able to upgrade or repair when I need to.
As someone who regularly uses linux in all kind of flavors, having a laptop that didnāt automatically come with a distribution was a huge selling factorā¦
Anywaysā¦ Very hyped about my framework 16 coming.

Hi all,
Iām an Aussie doctor in my 50s who also does some data analysis and web development on the side. Iāve been moving from using Windows all my life to now mostly using Linux. My wife was complaining about laptops not being repairable and being thrown away, and then my laptop touchpad died. So it all came together - moving away from windows, needing a new laptop and trying to find something that is customised and reapairable. What did I find? Framework. Received my Framework 13 yesterday and put it together easily. Looking forward to installing Ubuntu 24.04 and getting going!

iām q66, iām the founder and primary maintainer of the Chimera Linux linux distro; the framework 13 (intel version) is my new mobile workstation after a bad experience with a thinkpad p14s gen4 amd and so far so good
i like the repairability/sustainability goals and the laptop seems pretty well thought out in that regard (user-facing usb-c ports not soldered to the mainboard and so on) though i do kinda wish that there were two more module bays (and a higher resolution display, otoh i can use the existing one without additional scaling which is nice)

Laptop 16 is my first framework laptop. Iām very excited to see whether the concept of interchangeable graphics cards will prove successful in the future and whether a new generation of ATI will follow, perhaps also an option with Nvidia at some point.
first attempt with modular design was the HP zBook 15 and that was a disaster for me because the first possible option to update the mxm Nvidia card was the last and nothing else: Pascal without official driver support (Optimus). Frustration at a high level. The Pascal MXM module was available in China (not from HP) and I risked the adventure because users had reported that they could somehow get the module to work (with modifications to the driver and problems with the UAC). This card basically worked with a modified driver, but only if the Intel graphics is deactivated and without a second screen attachedā¦
So there was never a real chance to update the graphicscard. My guess: there was a lack of will to adapt the driver. HP then buried the concept with the MXM graphics cards, which HP would have liked to have done a little earlierā¦As a customer, you remember this.
Then an XPS 15 9560 came in 2017, which I was very happy with. However, it is not modular (but it is more modular than Apple). So now another modular computer: Laptop 16 with graphics card slot. My computers get a lot to do: 3D CAD, video editing, image editing, fully spherical panoramasā¦ in high resolution. A lot has changed in the performance of laptops in the meantime and now the switch to FW 16

I just purchased my first framework, and am excited to do some educational game development with this machine over the coming summer 2024. I teach computer science 9mo/yr and am hoping to receive this new machine by the time my final grades are submitted.

Im kyle, I just got a fw13. Im planning on installing nixos on it, and probably dualboot Kali linux on it.
I work mostly in infosec/devsecops/sysadmin roles, and I wanted a laptop that scratches my itch of having total control over my devices.
Planning on studying for OSDA and OSCP with it. Also planning on learning a lot about Nix and migrating all my devsecops skills from classic imperitive design to 100% ephemeral declarative design.

YES, i like it! Just migrated my operating system Windows 10 from XPS 15 (9560) to Laptop 16. I have used WIMage Sript from German magazin cĀ“t and everything is working very well (with all programs, dokuments, special setupsā¦)

Hello, new to this all. I am currently saving up for a framework 13. Trying to justify it as I do have a work laptop and a nice desktop, but I would love to have something of my own on the go.

Hi! Iāve just received the shipping notification for my Framework 26 and am excited to get my hands on it. Iām an IT specialist in the DC area of the US. Iām not quite forty, and Iām visually impaired. That last bit is important only because it changes the way I interact with things like this forum and the setup guides, ETC. Iām noticing that things in the DIY world are very visual, and I donāt even have light perception. At any rate, Iām giving over as much after-work and weekend time to this as I can amnage, and I canāt wait to see if this beauty is worth the wait and money. I love the idea of a laptop I can maintain in stages for a decade or more. Thanks to the Framework team for making such a great idea real. Count me in to the future!
