By the Time i had finally made up my mind, we’ve gone into Batch 9, so here is the absolutely necessary post for all “niners”.
So far, it is showing me delivery in Q4, which would be great. Either way, looking forward to it.
my chosen config is as follows:
DIY
CPU: AMD Ryzen™ 7 7840U
Ram: DDR5-5600 - 32GB (2 x 16GB) (don’t care for compatibility issues and the pricing was reasonable)
Drive: WD_BLACK™ SN850X NVMe™- M.2 2280 - 2TB (+1tb exp. card for a removable home folder)
It will become my main personal device and relegate the desktop to an occasional gaming machine.
Also Batch 9 here, with the 7640U.
It also shows Q4 for me, though I’m wondering about the year. Is that 2023 or 2024? It doesn’t show that for me.
Because the current Framework 16 Batch 13 shows Q2 and I guess that doesn’t mean it is delivered back through time.
It’s Q4 2023 I saw a post the other day saying they plan to ship all back orders and have enough supply to be marked in stock before the end of the year.
Finally made up my mind too and ordered the DIY model with the 7640U today.
Sure, the Ryzen 7 would be nice with it’s better GPU, but I myself couldn’t justify the additional cost.
My order is without RAM, SSD, OS or a power supply (already got one), so kinda barebones. For cards, I went with 2x USB-A, 2x USB-C and 1x HDMI.
For the SSD, I’m either eying a 1 TB Samsung 980 Pro or a Lexar NM790.
Regarding RAM, I was planning to buy 16 GB DDR5-5600 (Crucial or Kingston probably) but given that the jump to 32 GB is not that absurdly high currently, I might go with that.
But since Batch 9 will take some weeks until it’s shipping, I got some time to decide and look for some deals.
I would love for it to be here sooner rather than later but we are more likely looking at the getting payment emails in the 1st week of December and arriving in the 2nd and 3rd weeks. If production ramps up even more though we might have a chance of it sooner.
I’m going back to school for the first time in 15 years in January so as long as I get it by then I’ll be happy.
I was in batch 1, but my upgrade kit was lost by Fedex. Support offered either a refund or a replacement, and I opted for a replacement. To my surprise, the order confirmation that came through and indicated that it was a part of batch 9. That’s kind of a kick in the nuts. That timing is pretty bad for me, so I may cancel the order and buy it later, or skip this gen entirely…
I just started back myself this past summer. After 25 years doing Business Mgmt. I’ve decided to go down a different path while I’m still young enough. I actually enjoy being back in school. It’s different when you are older.
Batch 6 emails are going out now. Getting closer.
6 days between batch 5 and 6 notifications. Falls right in line with the graph from before. If that pace is maintained we should get our emails around the final week of November.
I look forward to receiving my Ryzen 7 7840U DIY build with 3 USB-C, 1 USB-A and 1 HDMI. I will add Kingston Fury DDR5 5600 16 GB x 2, WD SN850X 1 TB, Anker 100W charger, and Windows 11. This will be my work/travel laptop.
I’m also excited to get my Ryzen 7 7840U DIY build with 2 USB-C, 1 USB-A, and 1 HDMI. I ordered the default 16 GB x 2, 1 TB SSD, and charger. I’ll be using Ubuntu since I’ll be using this for my robotics research
Btw does anyone have any opinions about dbrand’s camo skins? I was debating between matte white and digital arctic camo (I wanna try the white look). However, I’m hesitant if camo will give off the wrong message these days in the US. Will people pass judgment do you guys think?
It’s gonna be my main laptop for work. I’m currently using a T480, but the internal battery failed couple weeks ago, tried a cheap replacement with no luck, and the external battery is also a not original one, holding like half the charge.
It’s 5 years, 5 months old, so I managed to snuck a new PC for me in this year budget (IT manager perks lol)
I’m still not sure if I want to use the Samsung 970 EVO Plus from the Thinkpad or buy a new 990 Pro or a WD_BLACK SN850X.
I’ve been following the Framework laptop since it inception so I can’t wait to try it.
If it will go well, we may think of deploying as the standard laptop in our company.
