Fried fw13 amd Mainboard, any other troubleshooting steps?

  • Upgraded to BIOS 4.02 right before starting the windows reinstall

I wiped my ssd and reinstalled windows 11 (25h2) and Ubuntu 26.04. Then tried to setup my egpu with Ubuntu, which cause an immediate power cycle loop until I unplugged the egpu. Tested thunderbolt support with a TB4 dock, but none of the peripherals were being detected.

Before wiping the ssd, i was on windows 11 and did not have any issues, so I tried doing the same things in Windows 11. The eGPU was detected, but driver installation failed, and the thunderbolt dock was not detected at all.

I tried to unplug and replug the thunderbolt dock, which caused my PC to power off(?) screen went black and the power LED also turned off. Have not been able to power on since. doing a main board reset did not work and the post code LEDs are showing the ram is having issues.

(note both eGPU and TB4 dock have power delivery capabilities, which might have contributed to the issue?)

I tested both sticks of RAM in both slots and none of the four combinations seem to have allowed the laptop to post. Also, it does not seem to be charging correctly. The orange LED will light up on the left side port, but when I press the power button, it turns off and doesn’t boot. When I plug the power into the right side port, there’s no charging LED indicator and it can power on, but then I get the same postcode errors.

Charging issues lead me to believe its the mainboard and not my memory

when I blew the main board on my framework sixteen the code is “deassert c5 fail” and “assert c0 fail”. meaning the CPU didnt wake up.
This arise from a potentially fried PMIC chip of some sort, maybe a microcode ROM.
A small thing near the FX-Beam.

I find it difficult to believe that normal type-C things would cause catastrophic failures of the main board. Esp on the 13 inch, all 4 port is capable of Power Delivery.

Do contact framework support in the mean time

Yea ive already contacted and am waiting for support to respond. Just wanted to know if there were any other troubleshooting things i can try.

I dont have any other sodimm ram sticks, so im hoping i dont have 2 fried ram sticks… dont want to open an RMA for the RAM if its not actually ram thats the problem, and i cant afford to buy replacements to test atm

If its truly ‘fried’, this won’t help… but won’t hurt to try.

Disconnect from AC power, carefully remove the battery for at least 2 minutes ( preferably 30 minutes ). Reconnect battery and reboot. See if you get a different response.

I mess with cases of multiple pd supplies and egpus quite a bit and really hope that wasn’t it.

What kind of gpu were you using in the egpu, “newer” amd gpus handle hotunplug quite well but depending on what driver you use nvidia ones can crash the system when unplugging but that should not physically fry anything.
