Received mine took 2.5 days from Taiwan to France - but I was not home the first time. VictoryDance
EDIT: So - up and running using KDE Neon. It is a Ubuntu 22.0x + latest plasma KDE on top of it, and by default add all required kernels OOTB. Only thing I really had to do, was add the PPD profiles and reboot the box.
Working flawless so far. Will do some fine tunings, then add Steam to the Beast and check gaming out
Also took 2.5 days from Taiwan to Florida. I pre-signed for it with FedEx, but they still didn’t leave it for me, alas. I was able to get them to drop it off at a pickup location that I could grab the next day though!
It was fun to build, working perfectly so far. And I’m having entirely too much fun with my clear RGB keyboard and macropad!
Mine was shipped on March 1, traveled to the Philippines, China, Germany, France and then to the Netherlands where I got it on March 7
I installed Windows 11 and then Fedora, dual booting on 1 1TB SSD and it is working great!
Small adjustments I made:
In the BIOS I set the audio mode to Linux and the power button LED to low brightness.
In Fedora I set the fractional scaling and touch-pad tap to click before I found the “completion guide” in the installation guide on the Framework guide
One question: How do you control the backlight on the numpad?
If you have any issues with your Framework 16 or advice for others, please feel free to post in an existing thread or start a new one. This way more people will see it, benefit from it, or help.
This thread is for deliveries of batch 1 Framework 16s, and since this is winding down, other information will be lost in this 909 post thread. We’ll be closing it in a few days.
As far as I can tell, all batch 1 laptops have been shipped out and the delayed macropads were shipped out from New Jersey last week. Batch 1 is pretty much closed out at this point.
Ah, I mistakenly thought this was the “cool club” of batch 1 customers for the Framework16. Is there a group or thread elsewhere for that kind of chatter?
I guess the mods decide what we are allowed to talk about in this thread and will lock as they disagree. Too bad. So much for enjoying ourselves I guess.
As one who proudly flies the nerd flag, I assumed that as soon as there was discussion of this thread being a “cool kids” club, it would immediately be locked.
Didn’t mean to ruffle any sensibilities with the idea of this thread being a “cool club”.
But as for sharing the thought of it… This thread is called a guild by title, so figured that was a club/group/gathering of some sort to a common purpose. In this case, assuming it was a batch #1 customer thing. There are people who were in batch #1, and those who were not. It doesn’t seem to make us any better or worse as humans of course. But there is a little extra cool factor in that, to me at least. – But yeah, if this one is getting locked soon…
Is there any desire to continue as a group of batch one customers or am I misreading the thread here? (happens to the best of us!) Seems like everyone was having a good time talking to each other.
I also think its worth saying that just because you are cool, or in a club, or even in a cool club, doesn’t mean you can’t be in the nerdy type crowd. This is a forum for open schematic field serviceable laptops after all, so figured I was among some of the best.
I for one, have been out of sorts all day after reading your comment.
Kidding! I agree with you that one can be as cool as it gets as well as a so-called nerd, from whatever observer’s perspective. I am plenty comfortable with my nerd status if that’s how others perceive it, and don’t consider myself to be more or less cool because of it. At the same time, I enjoy riffing on it and using it to poke fun at myself. Life is more fun if one does not take oneself too seriously (not a judgment of you or anyone, to be clear, just my point of view).
Maybe you can start a “FW16 Kool Kidz Tricks and Tips” thread for everyone who has already received the machine, regardless of batch. Then our friend @junaruga may be kind enough to turn it into a wiki if enough useful information is collected.
