Building it was easy though the only issue I had which others have run into is ensuring the bezel sits flush.
When it doesn’t sit flush there is a click as you open and close the laptop. Just ensure the cables by the hinges are sitting above the hinges and the cables are sitting in the dedicated grooves when they get past the hinges.
For me the left hand cable wasn’t in that wee groove so it was forcing the bezel up. Once I push it into place the bezel went on very easily.
I had the same issue. Think it would be a good idea to put a tiny adhesive sticker or something so that the cable cannot escape the groove. Anyways, it’s easy enough to fix.
Received my order last friday. Built up and installed fedora on weekend.
Feeling pretty good so far. Had slight issue when installing bezel, tried to adjust the cables for screen wrongly at first but just had to put it in right way (over the hinge, not under). Fedora with Gnome feels like a nice use experience.
Biggest annoying thing was that yesterday I was using it on my lap and suddenly, with no additional input, it went to sleep. Pretty wierd. I had not anything magnetic near the laptop so shouldnt be issue of it thinking that lid was closed.
There can be some kind of configuration difference, atleast the keyboard might be different, depending of course where people are living.
Its a shame that there has been no info from FW side about these. In reddit there was some commends regarding the Core ultras and that the batch2 was erroneusly set as august shipping.
But the info should be provided through a newsletter and post on the forum.
I’ve had my laptop for about a 5-6 days now.
I bought 7840u, 2.8k, 2 usbc alum, 2 usbc green, 1 usba, 1dp, 1hdmi, green bezel.
(32gb ram and 1tb ssd separately.)
To call this DIY felt funny to me. The only parts not installed was the bezel and input cover, items I would have needed to remove to install the ram and ssd anyway.
The machine is running windows. It will be used for AutoCAD, Office apps, and Adobe Acrobat. ( I have installed battle.net and Diablo 4. That pushes it pretty hard, even on low settings. FSR might make it strain less, but I only installed it to stress test the device. It exceeded my expectations.)
So far, I’m not sure I like the cost : benefit when compared to the horsepower of other things I could have purchased, but since this is a “field laptop” the repair-ability and availability of parts/documentation is the primary reason i purchased and will be keeping it. The idea that I can upgrade with another mainboard/motherboard down the road is “nice” but not something I tried to factor into my purchasing decision.
People mention the laptop “feels hollow” and I can understand that statement, but the weight of the laptop is great. I almost dont notice it compared to my previous Dell monstrosity. The 3:2 ratio actually allows me to perform work on a small laptop while away from a screen or home machine.
The 7840 gets quite warm under basic tasks and the fan can get loud under load, but even at it’s loudest, its much quieter than my previous workstation laptops.
I have had an issue where trying to remove the DP cable, the expansion card ripped from the device before it let go of the cable. It’s not a major issue and did not harm the device, cable, or card; just to note it can be tight and you might want to stabilize it while removing the cable.
Windows 10 pro would NOT work out for me. I had to buy Windows 11. (TPM 2.0 issue with upgrade and I spent a day trying to mess with it so I gave in. I’m sure someone out there has made it work, I just needed to work, not go down the rabbit hole; I do that too often, it seems.)
Sorry you guys have not received your devices yet. I hope they come sooner rather than later and that my story/experience helps in the waiting.
Classic.
Opend a request to ask about the planed Timeline. a Few hours later i got the Payment mail -yay.
For all European Customers.
My Deposit payment was working with no problems. However, the second (the big one) payment was declined from my bank. It seems like in the European Region, there is a requirement that the company who is requesting the money, need to request twice and you as the credit card owner need to accept the payment, with a confirmation.
Thats what my credit card support told me. So don’t be surprised, if you got a mail with “payment declined”. Just open the link in the Mail, enter your payment details again and follow the process. Just worked for me

Hi everyone.
My laptop 13 AMR Ryzen 7 7640U with 2.8K diplay has by order the 25 july and I have done the big payment today. I so exited. I wait the shipping mail so much.
I have reed some here speaking about the price perf. I have done my calculation, I think after 1 update of the mainboard, the price will be like you buy 2 “classic” laptop. I think it’s a great invest. We just need to hope that framework will not close. But I think they will not when we see the difficulty they have to sent their laptop.
I will do more post here to share my experience when I will receive my laptop.
Love you all
