The problem:
I experienced an “instant” shutdown while playing a game. Not just a black screen, it was full power cut off. On reboot, Windows failed to launch. I get:
“Your device ran into a problem and needs to restart” with the stop code: DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE (0x9f)
I was able to reboot into Safe mode, but any attempt to boot into normal Windows resulted in the same failure.
The attempted fix:
After a fair amount of futzing around in Windows Safe mode (removing drivers, etc) I opted to just do a clean install of Windows 11 Pro (from a USB stick, without internet access, using start ms-cxh:localonly to bypass the Microsoft account requirements).
Booted into Windows successfully.
No internet connection, so Windows update could not automatically run.
Updated BIOS from 3.02 to 3.04 (using FrameWork’s provided util)
Rebooted into Windows successfully
Installed the FrameWork driver_bundle_W11_v102_2025_11_27.exe
Failed on reboot. Right back to the same issue.
Booted back into safe mode, allowed internet access.
Used DDU to remove AMD gpu drivers. Didn’t touch chipset drivers.
Attempted reboot into Windows (normal, not safer mode) and the system failed to boot, although i did not get the stop code this time)
At that point I thought I should post something here before i really start digging deep. I plan to reinstall Window’s again, enabling proper MEMORY.DMP because im not seeing it (i need to check my windows config). But before i start down that maze of debugging and reading log files, I thought I should check here to see if anyone has dealt with something similar. I found the posts below, but they are a little old, or don’t actually apply to my situation.
no. not yet. I filed a support request but it took them a little time to get back to me and then i got busy with the new year. I am about to reply to their email now.
