FW12 Batch 1 Guild

Regarding the weight, it’s exactly as my bricked (due to power loss during BIOS update…) ThinkPad X390. Framework 12.2" is a bit smaller but has a bigger battery and replacable parts. In my case it will light enough! I’d never compare it to some ultrabooks.

You are right! Considering the Framework’s replaceable parts, it doesn’t really make sense to compare the Framework Laptop 12 to other brands’ devices. However, I still want to compare the Framework Laptop 12 to the Framework Laptop 13. Both Framework Laptop 12 and 13 have replaceable parts. Laptop 13’s battery is bigger than Laptop 12’s one, right? And these are still same weight 1.3 kg. Why?

I’m assuming it’s the plastic housing but will ask

The touch/stylus panel with coverglass is substantially heavier than the non-touch panel on Framework Laptop 13. That is the main weight driver.

I haven’t seen over 2TB in a 2230 form factor, but I also haven’t looked.

Just ordered the i3 in Sage, batch 1!

I don’t need one, but I ordered a grey i5 as soon as US preorders were open.

I’ll pick up ram and storage on my own later.

I have a 13 as my EDC and a 16 as a desk queen. Been happy with both so far.

I feel like Slim Pickens in Dr. Strangelove. Yes, I am a dork. Batch 1 (0). Can’t wait.

This is my config. Was a little disappointed styluses weren’t ready yet but still excited.

I got the i5 because I don’t forsee Framework releasing a new CPU anytime soon (like how the FW16 hasn’t been getting much attention) so may as well go for the higher model.

My question is whether the i3 or i5 models will have better battery life. Because FW13 comes with different size batteries depending on CPU. Did I pick the right choice?

Thank you for your answer! I didn’t know there was such a difference in weight between a touch/stylus panel and a normal panel. I am looking forward to seeing the touch/stylus panel featured on the Framework Laptop 12 Deep Dive!

It’s nice to see our US folks joining the Batch 1 Guild!

Not an expert. Hope somebody with deeper knowledge can confirm.

FW12 i3 and i5 ship with the same battery (50Wh). I think they should perform almost the same battery-wise, although the i5 can get more done / handle more heavy workload in the same time. So for lighter office tasks and Internet browsing I’m hoping for very similar results for both.

Just wanted to say this is my first framework laptop and very excited. Has all I want out of a 2 in 1. Already have another machine for performance, graphics, TB4 when I need it, but more than double the weight… This will be perfect for commuting and everyday tasks.

Went for gray i5, 2 usb-c, usb-a and hdmi. Will be speccing it out with BYO 32gb and 2tb, and probably linux mint.

My only gripe is that I’m not a huge fan of any of the colours - lavender and bubblegum not for me, the sage is nice but stands out too much. Black and gray would have been better as single colour options rather than contrasting accents. Would have loved to see an “ocean” variant - like the sage but in blue.

I got the i3 in Sage! Very happy that US pre-orders opened up so quickly! I’m wanting to get this mainly to use as a tech laptop for work, and as a nice travel laptop.

According to Technical City, the i5 is only about 14.6% more performant than the i3. That didn’t really seem worth the $150 price bump for me, especially for my use case.

Preordered on the first minute but just found this post. Chose the i5 model since the price becomes a nice round number

I sincerely hope those options can be added in the future:

  1. HDMI card w/ matched color
  2. Blank keyboard option

Here’s my config :]

I have a lot of stuff from my Framework 13 so I didn’t need to buy a bunch of new expansion cards or a charger etc.

When US ordering opened, I had a configuration all set and ready to order in batch one. But my password wasn’t working for some reason. I went through the process to reset it, which only took 20-30 seconds. Then I went to place my order and it said “out of stock.” I had to start over and ended up in batch 3, lol. So no batch 1 guild for me.

Sorry to hear that! I guess that many people competed to pre-order at the same time. lol

As I wrote in my first post on this thread, now you have an opportunity to create the “FW12 Batch 3 Guild” thread!

Sorry friends; I updated my config and got pushed to batch 6 :sob:

@jchase I am sorry about your situation. I thought we could change the configuration, holding the place in the pre-order queue according to the following past communications. I have no idea why the change of the queue happened for you.
