I have had myself two cables that failed like this. So far, that is 2 out of 3 USB-C cables that have frayed like this. They are still functional, but scary, especially with the higher power going through those cables now…
The remaining one I have that’s undamaged is the (unused) one I have recently ordered (2025-06-18). It is different than the other ones: more flexible, and the angled end has this stubby end that’s a little different than the original.
I don’t know how well that one will survive, but if it also fails, I’ll certainly reach out to support like others have done here and elsewhere (The outer insulation of my USB-C cable is broken, exposing the internal wires, Charging cable keeps breaking - recommendations for alternatives?, Better kink protection for power cable, Power Cord Wiring Exposed after 4 months?, Bad cable?). It seems that is essentially the solution here…
I’m honestly a little surprised Framework hasn’t organized a proper recall on this, as it’s a significant safety hazard.
